Want to thank everyone on this thread for your input, this was a tough decision but I just placed an order with BBWheelsonline.com for the Nitto Ridge Grapplers in the C load. $940 shipped, I will be posting pics once they arrive and of course after I get my rims and get everything installed. Thanks again for all your help.

Bringing this back from the dead. What's the verdict on the C load ridge grappler?

+1, Maxx has more open tread. I bought because I get into some nasty mud

I have a little less than 5k on my ST maxx. Let me tell you, they are heavy as fuck. My mpg has decreased a consistent 2mpg. They also handle much worse than the stock tires.

However, I can say, they do excellent off road, and show very little sign of wear. They are also kind of loud. and they are very expensive.

An honest review! I would be all about the Maxx if it came in C load.

Did you find they got considerably louder as you had more miles put on them? Reason I ask is because I just had ST Maxx's put on mine yesterday, and put about 30 freeway miles on them on the way back home at speeds up to 70 mph. I was shocked at how quiet they were for having the moderately aggressive tread they do. I really could not discern much more noise above the stockers. So far I'm extremely pleased with how quiet they are. I expected a bit worse.

Other impressions so far is a bit stiffer (which was expected), and a little squirrely. But hard to know for sure with only 30 miles on them, and I've read that the squirrely feeling will dissipate as I get some miles on them.

They are loud to me in comparison with the stock good years. Those tires were very quiet. The Coopers are loud but I suppose not any more than an aggressive A/T tire would be. They are definitely more squirrely, There seems was a noticeable change in the the way the truck handled, a lot more sluggish now. But what do you expect lol

Of course they're going to be louder and heavier than the stock OR tires. Those tires are not true ATs. ST Maxxx tires are also in the same category as the Toyo RTs, so you're at the upper edge of aggressive AT options as well. I have GY Duratracs on mine (285/75) and my mileage went down nearly 4mpg. Comes with the territory :(

Was debating between the Duratracs and Ridge Grappler, going with Nitto after reading all the positive reviews.

I still don't get why nobody brings up the fact that even though the Ridge Grapplers are made in a load C, you don't get the benefits people used to expect from load C which were less weight than load E and therefore less harm to acceleration and gas mileage. Have you guys actually looked at Nitto's spec's? The Ridge Grappler Load C is actually like half a lb heavier than their load E! The only benefit left to load C is better ride on road for light trucks than load E. Also the statement earlier in this thread that they come in 6 or 10 ply is apparently not true. Both load ratings have the same number of plys just laid out differently.

Why do the C and E rated 265 70 17 ridge grapplers weight the same?

I weighed one of my 285 C’s at 53 lbs. I followed up with nitto trying to get weights before purchase but it seems like there’s a disconnect with nitto USA and Toyo Japan

Now I’m really curious what the 265 70 17 would weigh, that could change my choice of tire.
