I had a 2010 Dodge 1500. I really liked it. It was 4x4 longhorn edition. And it was FAST. But the fuel mileage? It was better than I got with my Taco when it was STOCK.

Well I tow mine to Maine from Here and only on the tail end of Rte 9 which @Tacoma Mike can attest to is or was a goat path do I wish for more power there is a 2 mile long 11% grade and a mile long 15% grade I have to go over and one real short not sure what percent grade but it is damn near 45 Degrees up but only for a 1/4 mile or so . I can tell you cruise control will turn off on those grades .

@Marty65 I did a lot of research up to and including going out to Ohio to Air Stream stumbled on all fiberglass models one night and then stumbled on this manufacturer . The up keep and resale value on really any all fiberglass is much better then any other type but the draw backs are sizes and most of the US manufacturers Scamp, Casita , Aliner etc you only get what they have in their packages that is it . Escape will customize it for you to a degree ie pick colors of anything interior fabric, counter tops etc , pre wire for anything you want or install it if you want, fully winter camping capable like mine is heaters on the tanks double pane windows insulated etc etc . Then I looked at the resale and how fast they sold and I was sold . This is my first camper ever just researched for about 2 years .

It was a really good truck, problem is I got a 30 ft travel trailer and it just wasn't big enough to handle it, so I sold it and got a 1 ton cummins truck. Also, it was really pretty. To pretty. I never took it off the pavement. LOL. Then I got rid of the travel trailer and the cummins cause I didn't want to hang out in campgrounds, I figured I could travel around in a mini cooper and stay at motels cheaper, then I got to thinking about overlanding, except I didn't know there was such a thing when I started thinking about it. And here you go. Me with a Taco and a RTT camping on the top of a mountain that you have to have 4 low and the rear locked to get up.

Tacoma is the perfect truck for your intended purpose ... in fact it's been tailored and marketed specifically in that direction IMHO.

I think so. I put a lot of thought into what kind of rig would work, and I didn't even know there was such a thing as a RTT at the time. Id thought about old broncos and scouts. Tacos, 4runners and old land cruisers. The Taco just seemed to fit. Then I found out about RTTs after I got the grey Taco. I knew what I wanted to build.

Guess that comes in handy when you're getting 12 - 14 MPGs (or so I've heard).

Oh, the temp was south of 90. It was upper 80s, and cooled down real nice in the evening. I was about 6500 ft up. And this will be the last time I camp there till fall. In a couple weeks Im going to head up the opposite direction. I have an idea to get up into some remote pine forest. Then over the fourth Im going to travel up the coast of Cali. I should be able to make it up to Oregon before I have to come home. Ill be camping on the beach, and in the redwoods on that trip.
