I think you will have a better outcome with the new chip!

I was told by DCZ that I have the latest chip and my results are normal. I will probably sell mine. What we might be saving in minimizing shifting we lose in extra wear and tear on engine by the increased RPM and cost of operating this device. My MPG has dropped about 3-4 MPG for freeway driving.

Sorry to hear that! My MPG's increased by 4MPG's all around so i have been extremely happy with it! Good luck selling it , it should sell fast!

Wear and tear could be said for the way the truck drive's without ShiftSense Pro the constant up and down shifting lugging around town doing 40 in 6th gear and what about the 6th to 3rd gear downshift when climbing a steep grade it's BRUTAL !

Increased RPM should not be associated with additional wear and tear on the engine. Modern engines are designed to operate at higher RPM than engines of 10-15 years ago. In fact, in most cases it produces less wear and tear on the engine to operate it within its optimum performance zones (higher RPM), thereby significantly reducing the 'load' on the pistons, rings, rods, everything. Higher-cadence, higher RPM, equates to lower forces and pressures required to maintain torque and speed. This can even be thought of for cases as simple as a professional bicyclist: Higher pedal-cadence is the optimum because it reduces the forces required through muscles, knees, etc, and is better for endurance and long-term health. Similarly for automotive engines, running it at slightly higher RPM means better power, torque, more breathing, less force.

If you watch the Indy500 yesterday, you will see that those engines are spinning 12,000 rpm., Nascar are spinning 8-9000 rpm. Airplane piston-engines are running continuously at 2500-4000 RPM. Obviously different animals, but all engine are designed differently, and operate most efficiently with best life at vastly different RPM ranges. With the ShiftSense, you will see it maintaining the engine-operation in the 1800-2400 rpm range, the majority of the time, (which is still in the very bottom end of its torque curve). And again, this is FAR from Redline for this engine. Alternatively, the OEM programming of 1200-1500 rpm is falling off the bottom of the torque curve entirely. The Tacoma 3.5L engine is rated for max power and torque at 4600 RPM. Even with ShiftSense, it is not likely to reach that high of RPM.

This engine, being a modern-type, is not designed for low-end torque and we can not expect it to turn out torque like an old V8 or a diesel (or even the Gen2 4.0L for that matter). It just simply can not produce enough torque to sustain any appreciable forward-momentum at these low RPM's. So, yes, the engine will sound different from trucks of 10 years ago, but if you look at any modern car, SUV, you will see that higher-RPM is where OEM's are headed, and is where you achieve best life and performance.

@dcz108 when you manually down shift does it disable the device? I shifted from 4 to 2 coming up to a stop and then after accelerating the device no longer seemed to shift for me. Put it in drive then back to sport and it started working again. Tried a few times and saw the same results.

I would be pissed had I paid 45k on a truck and had to buy a gimmick box to fix my truck. That's just freaking crazy I can't believe Toyota doesn't do something

Yes, manually making a shift should override and disable it. You will hear the cancel indicator (3-short beep). Re-engage by shifting to D then back to S. If you leave it go, it will make those downshifts 4-3-2 for you as you are slowing to stop.

People buy raptors for $80k and spend $15k increasing the performance. A lot more dramatic improvement than this, but it's common across the board for every car. A little annoying for sure. But Toyota is servicing the 175,000 non off roaders that want better mpg's vs the 5,000 per year that do off road and want it to drive like a truck (180,000 total sales). 80 20 rule.

But this is far from a gimmick. Works extremely well and a lot of engineering went into it.

There's no sort of learning with s mode, right? I swear mine is back to the old behavior. So much so that last night I just manually put it in fourth because it was continually shifting from 5-4-5... just like before this unit.

Lmao no offense to the op but yes it's a gimmick box you have to plug this thing in to the OB port and trick it with S mode yea it's a gimmick but yes it works.

I'm just saying check the definition of gimmick. It's obviously not an OEM product, a little hacked together, but not a gimmick.
