Hi all, I did a couple of searches, but I can't find a solution to my problem and was wondering if someone here could help me. I bought my 2010 Tacoma as a CPO in 2014 and it only came with one set of keys. I got another cut no problem for cheap at the locksmith, but they wanted an arm and a leg for an extra key fob, so naturally I went to eBay instead. The key fob arrived and I tried to program it using the instructions found online here:
    http://www.programyourremote.com/mobile/classified/-toyota-tacoma-listing-7379.aspx

I successfully got the truck into programming mode, but it never seems to want to accept my key fob. I've tried several times. The key fob has power and must work, as the truck is sending a signal in return saying that it will not accept the new key fob. Has anyone else encountered this? I got it from an eBay seller with several thousand positive reviews and it appears to be the same generic key fob that everyone else on here has posted about. Am I missing something? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I believe the seller from whom many of us bought no longer sells fobs. All fobs are not created equally. In order to work with a given vehicle, they must be equipped with the correct transponder. These vary not only by vehicle manufacturer, but also by model and sometimes even model year. Recommend posting details (listing, pics, etc) of the fob you purchased to try confirming compatibility.

Thanks for the input. I bought the key fob shortly after I got the truck in 2014, so the details of the item aren't pulling up in ebay anymore, but I have my original confirmation email, which I believe has some info:

    IMG_4416.PNG.jpg

I tried to program it back in 2014 with the same results and figured I'd get back to it in a weekend or two. Life happened and I didn't get back around to it until this weekend when I was detailing my truck, so I figured I'd do some more research before I gave up and bought another.

    yep..
Try to unplug and plug in the door control receiver. White box up behind/above the pass glove box, mounted on a metal bracket. This is what receives the Rf signal and controls the doors

However, this usually only works if you can't get into programming mode, worth a shot though.

Would that mess with how my existing stock one is programmed at all?

The transmitter type (GQ43VT20T) is right for later model Tacomas (e.g., 2012 and newer), but I'm not sure about 2011 and earlier. FWIW, a couple of current listings for GQ43VT20T fobs say they're NOT compatible with the 2010 MY.

I have a 2010 and it came with no key fobs. I went through ikeyless.com and I have had no issues going on 4 years now. Though I do not remember where I got the instructions for doing the actually programming. I believe it was a video on youtube I followed

I bought an identical looking fob but from Amazon, and it works with my 09. I think I paid 10-15$

Damn, it definitely said it was compatible with my 2010 when I bought it. There's not much I can do about it now either since I sat on it for too long. Thanks for the info. Can anyone link me to something that will definitely work for a 2010? I don't want to make the same mistake twice...

I don't dispute your report, but looks mean very little about what kind of transponder a fob contains. (Some can even be "transplanted.")

I'm not an expert on these things, but I've done a bit of reading about them and purchased aftermarket ones for several vehicles. Obviously, eBay listings aren't an authoritative source for compatibility info. I just grabbed a couple of them and found it coincidental that neither listed compatibility with your truck.

Interestingly, that one lists the same (GQ43VT20T) transponder type. If it works for you, OP, you appear to have received a defective one from the eBay seller.
