Anyone have any experience backpacking/fishing throughout the Wind River Range in Wyoming?

Best fishing you can imagine. Mostly went there to climb, but ate some fish. Check out the hiking and fishing guide by Finis Mitchell.

Got back from Sequoia last night. So much water and snow still it was nice. Wanting to go back already. Anyone know of a good lake to backpack to that has great fishing? I went to Hamilton Lake over the weekend. It was 75% frozen still with snow covered everywhere. 17mi from cresent meadows where we started at. Looking for something maybe a little shorter hike.

Kern River claimed 3 or 4 plus a dozen rescues. Be careful around the moving waters.

I'm going up to Lake Eleanor this weekend. But I think that's further than you're looking for.

On another note, Mammoth Mountain has announced skiing is open daily into august!

The beginning of May, coming in from Kings Canyon, the Kern was blasting down the mountain. I did not see anyone in/on the water.

Yes, rivers/streams have been very dangerous this year.

Is Lake Eleanor in Yosemite? How long is the trail and camping available?

Yes, just inside Yosemite, near Hetch Hetchy. You can park within a 1/2 mile of the lake. There's no camping in the area of the damn, but trails go up either side and you can camp with a (free) wilderness permit.
(See map. Pink area is no camping. The better spot is out by Frog Creek, a 2.5 mile walk)

I thought someone posted a link on here before with cheap topographical trail maps to national parks. Does anyone know where to buy?

Any ideas for Footprints? I have a BA Copperspur UL2 MTNGLO and just found out the footprints are no longer available. I checked with BA and r.ei. And the HV version is not compatible. Anyone make they're own?

Unless I'm backpacking I usually just use a tarp. Otherwise you could probably use something like this.

Make your own from Tyvek. More durable, almost free

Throw this on the ground under the tent. Somewhat waterproof, somewhat liteweight, somewhat cheap.

I could be mistaken but the footprint should be smaller then the tent.
