Does anyone know what this is under my dash?

I bought my Taco at a dealership in central FL but they had to go get it from another dealership. When I got home I noticed this under the dash. I called the salesman and he didnt know what it was nor could get any answer for me. All they offered was to remove it at no cost to me...duhh
So rather than let some new guy the dealer would've obviously sent to remove it and hack up the wires under the dash and possibly damage something, I decided to keep it and maybe find out what it is.
I think its some kind of security/ignition cut off system and I'd like to figure out what I need to do to use it.
If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

Its the new unintended accerlation sensor installed by Toyota. When, and I said WHEN, your Tacoma accelerates by itself, it will sense it. Then it deploys a drag chute out the back with big red letters telling nearby spectators to call 911. Oh, it also calls CNN to get the REAL scoop. :D Just busting man.

Horrible placement for something like that....Under the steering console??

No idea what is could be- but it wouldn't really make a lot of sense....

get some headphones and see if that's the size the jack is. if they fit try and plug an mp3 player or something else with a headphone size output in and then try switching inputs on your radio to see if you can get the sound to come through the speakers.

worst case scenario: something gets fried. truck is new = warranty = not your problem (just don't tell them you ever touched that thing if something does go wrong!)

Wow, it took 16 posts to identify it. It's a common security device the dealerships install and then try to sell it to you. Once it's wired up, you can't start the truck without installing the "key" that slides in there. The "key" they sell you usually has a microchip in it or some similar setup.

My dads S-10 had a thing like that on it. It looked more like one of those things you get from Verizon to put on your laptop for internet though.

Yeah, we had one that was a flat piece that went into a slot. But I've seen the toyotas with the one shown above. They part you put in looks like a large headphone jack. And they always mount them under the steering column somewhere because after you get in the driver's seat, you have to reach down and plug the key in. They're not used in my neck of the woods, but they're very common in the city dealerships.
