scarecrow, what did you end up doing? i also have an OEM camera, but my 2014 base is not prewired.
the camerasource connector kit only works with their camera.
the parts department at my local Toyota dealer doesn't want to help me. "we dont sell individual wire harness."
most of what i have found is for pre2014 tacomas.

I did this about a month ago with this, http://www.amazon.com/Toyota-Tacoma...49275553&sr=8-1&keywords=tacoma+backup+camera

    Install...
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zOQoh0oyvY

I am very happy with it, my parking lines are slightly skewed, might try to bend the bracket a little to fix it when I have some time to kill. I got it as a "for 200 bucks why not?" but they are seriously handy.

As far as being pre wired, my understanding is that regular cabs aren't, access and double cabs are. The 4 wires to the cab at the bumper harness is what camera source says to check.

    regular cab, 2.7, 4x4, automatic
as like most base 14's, the tailgate connector only has one prong/wire following to the cab, and the radio unit is not video wired to the foot panel

backup camera isnt a necessity on a regular cab 4x4. but the woman drives it, and im tired of hearing about it.

You could sell that OEM camera for 250-300 without a problem, they are preferred to camerasource just way too expensive. Take that money buy the camersource one and the wiring kit that you need that works with it. I think that is just about the only option if you really want to have one since the dealer won't play ball.

Unless your only problem with the dealer is getting the tailgate wire, in which case someone around here will probably send it to you for the cost of shipping that does the camerasource option.

It seems the Base V6 came with it prewired. 4 cyl reg cabs did not. So, for completeness, base package is not the defining factor on prewire vs. no prewire.

    Negatetime,

Read your post, and since I'm in the process of installing an additional camera to my 2011 I'm providing the fowlling info:

    1. This can be as hard or relative simple as you want to make it.
    2. cameras are in two version, normal view and reverse view.
    3. depending where you mount your display unit will govern which view camera you will need.
    4. If you mount your display unit on the dash you want the reverse view camera.

The camera is the "controller" of what view you get; normally backup cameras provide a reverse view.

The camera on the provided ebay link is almost identical to the OEM camera installed on my 2011. Primary difference being my oem camera does not have the backup red, yellow, and green lines.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Waterproof-...ash=item35ef532570:g:0HIAAOSwDNdVnkJQ&vxp=mtr

I'm also including a link to a video for the installation of back up lights. If you substitute the camera for the additional back up lights you will see this is fairly straight forward and the use of the relay is the way to go.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVG7X-ae298

This video helped simplify the process for me. I'm sure there are lots more ways to "skin the cat", but this one worked well for me.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

    Bob

Just a follow-up to my post on July 11, 2015. My 2014 base double cab short bed was pre-wired for a camera. I popped in a camera from Camera Source, used their wiring harness that connects from the camera to the wiring harness plug under the truck bed, and voilà, it worked. Whole job took less than 20 minutes.

Bob, how did your install work for you?

I looking at installing the Pop & Lock Power tailgate lock and will need to add a camera/monitor to it.

Wondering how the camera you bought off ebay worked...

    Hello,
The installation when very well, and the camera was perfect. My 2014 base, double cab, short bed was pre-wired all the way from the back of the touch screen radio to the tailgate latch. All I had to do was remove the existing factory wiring harness that went from the latch and through the bottom of the gate, and replace it with the enclosed camera harness. It plugged right into the plug at the end of the harness under the truck. The other end was already connected to the back of the radio. When I powered up and put it in reverse, everything worked as advertised. I had to tweak the camera position just a bit.

Glad to hear it went well for you. We've got an '07 AC...so probably no such luck for us.

Just contacted Pop and Lock to see which cameras will fit their tailgate handle PAL8540. I'll copy the contents of the e-mail in this thread, but basically they were of no help initially. We'll see if we get a more helpful response the second go round...

There seem to be many small backup cameras available on the internet... we're just trying to find out which ones will fit.

I guess there are other options like going with a license plate mount or mount to the camper shell...and maybe doing something wireless.

We've got a call in to Toyota parts and accessories to see if they have any ideas...

E-mail to Pop and Lock Customer Service pasted below:

    _____________________________________________

Pam, thank you for your response.

We are participants on a Toyota forum where Toyota owners from all over the world share information about products. We will be sharing what we learn from you with that forum and appreciate your help.

Can you tell me the dimensions or specs of the size of camera that will fit your product, please?

I would like to make sure that whatever camera we buy fits your product. Thank you.

Also, does your company plan on coming out with a new version? Many reviews state how loud the lock is and that the handle has a propensity to break.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Cameron

    Good morning,
We do not have any back up cameras in house to test nor do we have a list of brand names of cameras that are compatible but we have not heard of any particular one that hasn't.
    I'm sorry for the inconvenience,
    Pam

My '14 SR Access Cab was prewired. I bought a backup camera off eBay (had a Toyota P/N stamped on it). Plugged it in and it works great. Was $115 shipped to my door.

What is a used 2nd generation factory Toyota backup cam worth? I have an extra camera that came with a used tail gate I bought recently and wonder if I should keep it for a spare or sell it to help pay for the used tail gate?

Hell yeah you should sell it, cameras don't break often. You could probably get a couple hundred bucks out of it.

I'm having a bear of a time trying to get the Camera-Source camera to work in my 2014 Tacoma. I was not pre-wired. All wiring is getting the expected charge. When I put the truck in park, there is no change on screen. I just called Support today, and they had me use the wire without the special pin. No luck. Any ideas?

Just trying to narrow things down. Unfortunately I don't know anything about running the wiring, someone who does will probably be along shortly though.
