What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Went for a drive after work.

My Kings are starting to make some pretty crazy race truck noises too....

Any chance you have a part number for the studs on hand?

How was the install?

 

i just matched them up at parts store and got a longer version so no. install was a piece of cake.

rear studs off an 04 awd matrix are a popular choice.

 

Did you just hammer them out and back in or use a press of some sort?

 

hammer out. pull them in with a lug nut you wont mind marring up and a stack of washers or spacer. use an impact to drive them in. (mine were uncomfortably tight so i did a quick go at the hub with a carbide burr)

 

They are strong little things huh? I was surprised how little the cab crumpled inward for the amount of impact it sustained on such small surface area.

Thanks, it is scarier now that I've had time to think about it, but I love my little truck and won't be letting go of it any time soon. Strongly considering a daily driver now though.

 

I ran a set of these on my first Tacoma. My set were from a '93 pre-taco pickup. As somemone mentioned, they are 15x7. Mine were stammped with 15mm on the inside of the wheel. This offset on a 7" wide wheel puts the backspacing at a little over 4.5".

I am running CVJ axles with Kings and have no clearance issues.

Here's a pic after the billies were installed. I honestly think the front is a little higher than I would like.

That's how mine sits with new billies. Kinda like it. Nice and level.

 

So there's a possibility of me picking this plate bumper up for a really good deal , but it's made of 3/16 all the way around and I was wondering if y'all had any input on how this would effect my front coils?

Im prob too late for you but you pull the rod then the clip should pop out. with the rod in the clip it keeps it tight.

 

Didn't know Igor got a fancy new grille until I saw the trip report.

Been busy with moving and work. Ha its a beautiful @HomerTaco grill though!

 

Oh that's right forgot about that part. Well the grille is

 

i feel productive today. Got the front diff out, and the spindles off and ready for new dust shields, wheel bearings, ect.

Also took my fathers tacoma to go pickup a spare rear diff today and replaced both leaking corner lights with my old ones while I was at it.
