Don't worry about him. He's just jelly of my pencil neck. Every time he goes to wal mart and walks past the tank tops he thinks "man, I wish I wasn't the biggest, strongest guy In this wal mart so I could actually fit into one of those witty tanks. Alas, I'm much too huge."

The article explains it much better than I do, but in so many words, they spread the weight out over a greater distance making it easier to lift.

But I can personally attest to this phenomenon as well. I was lifting at a different gym once, and was deadlifting with bumper plates and crushing PRs left and right. I was hyped, but I knew something was off. So then I went to my home gym and tried the same weights with "regular" plates and was like "wtf?!"

If you have PRed using bumper plates, throw that same weight on using "regular" plates, and you will see that it is much more difficult to lift.

Also, to introduce more scientific evidence, crossfit gyms use bumper plates, so obviously they don't count for shit.
