The Toccoa River in Blue Ridge.

Got to hit it for a little less than an hour this evening as the water was going down (was going to stay past dark...then remembered my old '96 timberwolf 4wheeler doesn't currently have working headlights.). Caught 7 and missed a few more. Nothing big, but it's always fun on the fly rod.

I really liked the fish pond sling pack. Much lighter and cooler than my vest I have worn for 15 years.

Anyway, here are a few of the fish...

Thanks for the reply. they were generating the whole time and we only reeled in a few fish, but they were both healthy. even though fishing was slow, we had great weather and beers were consumed..

I've seen a lot of pics of folks that are stoked to have so much water. What we're you throwing? With that much water, I would have definitely had the spinning reel on deck and started launching some big jointed and countdown rapalas.

They did work on the dam here and basically drained the lake several years ago. There were all kinds of walleye and bass in the river...which I think helped lead to a couple years of not great trout fishing. But over 2 nights, me and 2 buddies caught over 100 walleye. Was a ton of fun while it lasted.

Same here its my go to but the Elk is becoming my favorite as well... Just as far.
Ha too funny, I stopped on my way going to the smokey's fishing Pigeon Forge and Chattooga. Yeah they're biting on Zebra Midges, Brassies, Quasimodo's (Sizes 16-18), San Juan worms (12-14), and Olive and Dark Brown Wooly Buggers (Size 10-12) in deep holes. Might be heading out there some friends haven't caught trout yet and they've been a couple of times and are getting discouraged haha.

Anyone care to share their euro nymph set up? I am ordering some stuff to make some leader systems but I have never made them before. This will probably go on my 8'6" rod, which I know that is sort of too short for high-sticking, but I don't have a 10ft+ rod for nymphing and the pocket water I fish is usually pretty tight.

I'm glad to see that there is a thread dedicated to fly-fishing on this forum. I am an avid fisherman with fly-fishing being my method of choice. Every summer I make it out to the Yellowstone area to fish for trout. There is nothing more fun than that. Back home in central IL there is not much trout fishing nearby. Instead I fly fish ponds for pansfish and bass. I am now beginning to explore Missouri trout streams, so if anyone knows of good fishing spots within 3 or so hours of St. Louis let me know.

I highly recommend Appalachian Furled leaders, specifically the euro hybrid nymphing on shorter rods. I use these almost excusivly when high sticking my 9ft.

He's local to me and I've made the switch from cutthroat to them.

They are also local to me although I've never used them. I might pick one up next time I'm at the fly shop. I am still set on making my own though. I've also been looking out for a longer 4wt for nymphing if anyone has suggestions.

I personally prefer indicator for high stick drifting and it works rather well, but reqires a lot of mending. I drift egg patern on a larger river though, not your typical high stick application.

Oh, have you tried tenkara on tight water? Some people swear by it.

Take a look at Echo Shadow II - good nymphing rod, good warranty and rather affordable comparing to some other brands. I have wt. 3 10' and quite happy with it.

The Boa cables in my Simms boots are breaking. Apparently the cables have a lifetime warranty. Turn it in to Boa and they'll send a new set of cables and the tool for free.

Got to go to the creek for a couple hours this morning. 2nd cast...boom. Had a monster hit and take off. Letting the line slide through my fingers to get on the reel and it made a hard run, the line wrapped around my finger, and the line snapped :(. Never saw it, but I know it was over 20.

Was able to catch several though
