Same here, if I take the 45 speed limit back roads on my 17 mile work commute I get 22+

Yep, when I'm running errands around town (100% city streets), I usually get between 20-23 mpg, even hitting most lights red. The only time I get shit mileage is if I drive through one part of town where the speed limit is super low, and the engine has't fully heated up. I mean, heck, the only time I've seen MPG as low as around 11 is if I'm moving my truck from the driveway to the street or something. lol

You cant compare NA vs TT in the same category. If you do that then at least include reliability and maintenance cost which is how Toyota designs and builds all their vehicles. Have you seen actual numbers from a F-150 ecoboost or TT bc they are well below the EPA ratings. Then you have to look at how Toyota and Ford set up the ratings (not sure for Ford but I believe different). EPA doesn't distinguish between models and they rate the MPGs at 65mph.

Personally Im on 285/75r16 3" lift with 300 lbs of armor and I still get 19-20 on the freeway @ 75 mph with no wind or elevation change. Around town I get 13-14 mpgs which isnt bad bc I dont have a light foot.

Don't be fooled by the epa numbers on the eco booost. I have a eco boost as well as my Tacoma. I have seen 21 mpg ONCE. down hill with a tail wind. Other than that, I am happy when I am above 14. mostly see 12-14 then freeway 16-17. But that horse has been beat to death... as far as my Tacoma - I'm happy when I see anything over 15. Usually around in the 11-12 range... maybe its due to my 35's- but then again my f150 has 35's as well...

Smiles per gallon. If you want good fuel economy - don't buy a damn truck.

Having owned a Ford Flex "ecoboost" there's nothing eco about it. I never achieved the EPA claimed mileage. I was lucky to avg 14mpg. Have your truck looked at if it's something as simple as a flash then problem solved if you're still not happy with it. Get rid of it. Toyota is like a bluechip stock, they're tried and true they don't do crazy, they leave that up to the Italians. That's why the resale value on a Toyota is so much higher than a Ford etc.

This is true. It's truck. The Tacoma is the best looking truck next to the raptor.

I had a MR2T for 5 years and a 2007 Tacoma for 10 years. That's nearly my entire adult life. I have an expectation regarding Toyotas about dependability and reliability based on my experience. Based what I am ready on Tacoma World, this truck is virtually a lemon law case. I can't help but wonder if I am getting low mpg because I bought a defective truck?

I have the MT - drive SW NH roads - so cruising 45 to 65 most of the time or so and only 1 stop light on my ~18mi commute 1-way. I am averaging 20 to 22 mpg and have just over 8000mi. I would not consider myself a slow easy going driver, road rage from little old gray hairs get me going to pass more than I need to.

You sound like the typical person that shouldn't of bought a Toyota. They are what they are and they run forever and hold thier value. They don't have to sell out to compete with other brands, although they seem to be doing more of that lately. You want bells and whistles, a 5 second 0-60 and want to impress your friends and family get something else.

Your mpg will inprove the more you drive it.

Am a I fanboy, maybe. I've had almost every truck out there, and I really like the Tacoma.

Typical. You must have come down from something with more power. If you wanted power in a truck, either tune a diesel or go with an F-150 with the 2nd gen 3.5 and 10spd, currently driving both my 07 taco and a 17 Lariat. The F-150 curbs my power craze when I need it. IT. JUST. KEEPS. PULLING.

I just don't get it..don't people know where the gas pedal is?.....I have no issues highway , city, hills, merging etc etc....to be honest my 2017 Tacoma 3.6 has the same feel power wise as my 2007 3.5 charger...the charger has the better tranny for your 0 to 60 and aerodynamics will probably come into play for better highway gas millage but over all very subtle differences....obviously the charger will handle better on turns etc etc

I agree it's a pickup truck not a sports car. Speed and driving like a maniac on the highway aren't pickup truck buyers number one priority.

I do agree with the OP that pretty much all the cars toyota sells now are boring appliance vehicles though. I see mainly old people drive most toyota's. The only vehicles in toyota's lineup that young people under 40 years old like are the Tacoma TRD models, the 4Runner TRD models, the tundra TRD models, and the toyota 86/scion FRS.

Everything else in toyota's lineup is marketed or tailor towards buyers in their 50s.
P.S. I love my Tacoma TRD off road and don't find it boring at all or not a fun driving experience.

    Rear end howl.

Modesto is looking into it. I spent 5 hours there yesterday while they tried to diagnose it. Today they're calling Toyota engineering to see what the fix is. (new diff or "its normal" is my guess)
