Awesome! Dave is working on his lift, Orlando looking at getting one, and if you get your sliders on then we'll have to do a wheeling trip to test all this stuff out.

Right on man, one of the better facilities to get on at in the area by far. If you don't mind the drive Beaumont has some really nice apartments on Major.

This is not very detailed but I tossed it together in a few minutes. I'm thinking of building this as a bed rack. I need to measure and inspect you guy's rails when I'm over there. I am thinking 1.5" square tubing. Might be overkill.

I've built similar for 2nd and 1st gens. Simple and effective. For a 2nd gen you're gonna want to order T-slot nuts from McMaster-Carr as they will fit in the bed rail system and allow you to move the rack fairly easily.

Good pictures, the second one is what I'm going for. What metal did you use? Square, or rectangular? Size? Thickness? Also, rough idea of the dimensions of the flat area. In the drawing I had mine was about 30" x 45"

1x2x1/8" rectangular tubing for the outside and legs. Then 1x1 square tubing for the inner. All 1/8". Then I used 3/16" angle on the sides but probably could've used 1/8" and been fine.

Any need for bed reinforcements to keep bed from spreading?

That's a iffy thing. I've never had a complaint or heard of one spreading but some people believe it can happen over time and abuse.

It's one of those "your judgement and call" type of things.

If you are worried about the bed sides spreading from the force of the rack and gear you can change up the design of the rack a little. By adding a vertical starting leg you can re-transfer some of the horizontal force back to vertical force. Or you can add a gusset to where your rack transitions from horizontal to the vertical. This will strengthen the rack and reduce the amount of deflection that could be caused from weight being added to the rack.

I did an analysis of bed racks for a class in school. I determined most of the bed racks manufactured are over built for what we use them for.

This is what I did on mine when I built it, put a gusset on each leg. Ran it like that with a tent for a couple of years. So far my bedsides don't look like they're pushed out, but I've never actually measured. BTW sweet analysis @phillstill

I enjoy being able to analyze my designs before fabricating them. I've been setting up a CFD analysis on a Reverse flow smoker I designed so I can get the best heat flow and equal volume temps for the smoking chambers. But my personal laptop crashed the other week. :(
