I expected that with mine too. TRDOR, auto and I never saw better than 18, but I usually got 13-15. It was still a nice truck, but it wound up being a little too small to carry both my hunting dogs and gear for the week long hunting excursions I take. Thought I could make it work, but not without a trailer. And the cranky tranny pissed me off.

Ironically my new 2016 Silverado LTZ with a 6.2l gets better gas mileage than the Taco. And that's with a ARE mid-rise topper. At 11,000 miles I'm averaging 23hwy and 17.5 city.

Of course that's if I don't womp on the gas, and that's hard NOT to do cause that 6.2 is frekin' sweet.

If you don't like it- ditch it.

I remember another Toyota that was boring, under powered and slow. How does a 14 second 0-60 sound?

What I wouldn't give to have that boring ass, boxy, uninspired design vehicle in the garage right now!

And personally, MPG is about the last thing I'm going to worry about when purchasing a purpose oriented vehicle (in this case off road capable vehicle that can double as a daily driver). A 5mpg difference will run what, $350 to $400 a year in gas at 10k miles a year? It just comes with the territory.

I'm sure the Colorado diesel does a bit better mileage wise. But at what premium on price? And no way I trust a chevy to handle the abuse I've heaped on my Toyotas over the years. Everything is a trade off. If I want something that looks offroad ready for my next visit to the mall and won't have an F150 ecoboost blowing my doors off but that I don't need to rely on being able to handle off road abuses, I'd consider another option. Until then, it's Toyota.

garbage lfa? what the hell is wrong with you? "I mean who the hell would buy that over an m2 or m4" Anyone with a brain.. There's a reason the LFA costs 400k+ and doesn't depreciate

Toyota has always been conservative with their trucks. Infrequent redesigns, never leading in any spec war, etc. That's not what makes Toyota Toyota.

But it works. Proven long life vehicles if their properly maintained. (not to go into discussion about the current 16' issues)

iirc Toyota still produces the 70 series land cruiser.... so really, is Toyota boring or is the big brother just a stumpy prick....

that being said, anyone who buys a frs/86/brz expecting it to be Powerful... Is buying the car for the wrong reasons...

They put in a V10 with a 9000rpm redline. It set a record for the fastest lap on the nurgerbring. And he calls it boring.

Friends of ours have a '14 eco boost F150, they avg about 15 mpg. They also had one turbo replaced under warranty, and just had to do the same one again on their own dime. Low and behold, once that one was quiet, they can now hear that the other one is starting to go. 75k~ish miles

I just got a 4×4 sport mt double cab. It now has 562 miles. I just drove 300 miles on hilly interstate. Filled up, calculated 21 mpg. Take your truck back. Either it or you is broken.

    Aight, well, bye..

Also, the FRS is a Miata competitor... just sayin...

Psh it's the third gen section :transformer::rofl:

Not to mention the only car Jermey Clarkson likes more than the LFA is the P1, and sounds what I imagine pure bliss and happiness to sound like :D

Wonder if that V10 Ford F-250 could sound decent... time to Google

Edit: can't even lie, I kinda like it

I didn't research anything about the 2nd gen because I didn't really care. I read Tacoma World maybe once or twice 7+ years ago.

My second gen did everything I wanted it to do, and the only recall I remember was over a floor mat, which I basically ignored.

Totally agree with you, Expedition overland tested out the new ZR2 and it only averaged 20 MPG with the diesel in their real world driving test.

A couple of MPG is nothing to worry about considering the capability, price. My wife was looking at new cars and it was nothing to spend $40 K by the time you throw in a couple of options.

It ultimately comes down to, if you really want to get out of it, then take a loss and move on. But alot of stuff on this site is poison to those who my actually enjoy their truck. I joined TW after buying my 17', and I came in here the way people talk about new movies before I see them. You may have your opinion about it, you may like it or dislike it, but ultimately it comes down to what "I" enjoy.

Even after all the negativity, I spent years trying to get a Tacoma and I have never been so happy to own one. I had a 11" F-150 Ecoboost, a Twin Turbo G35 and a couple other not to mentions, and this by far is my favorite ride.
