Took the Casita Out For First Time

Towed my Casita 17ft about 200 miles today. From about 6200 ft to 4500 ft and back. Kept it in 4th most of the way and probably went faster than I should (speed limit was 80, I went about 65 to 70).
Got only about 12 MPG. I am sure I could have gotten more had I kept it around 60 to 65 mph the entire way.
Really pleased with the tow power on my 2013 4.0 after coming from a 3.4 V6 on my old 2002 Tacoma. My old Tacoma was a manual and got much better towing MPG but had no cajones at all.
My Casita probably weighs about 3000 to 3500 pounds all loaded up. Would have preferred better MPG but given the infrequency of my towing, I don't mind too much.

 

Good looking rig. I tow a 17SD Casita with my '15 TRD Sport and average 15 mpg. I'd say the bikes don't help your mileage. 4th gear is your friend.

 

I didn't really think about the bikes. Guess they could be a big cause of the poor MPG.

It is a 2006. In the process of giving it a little makeover this season. New wheels/tires, new decals/wax coming, added solar panels and few other odds and ends.

I love my Casita. I can't tell you how many people have approached me and said "I wish we had a smaller RV like yours".
