    So I was thinking about wrapping a chain around this small tree stump and trying to rip 'er out in 4LO. It's about 8" diameter. Think this is doable without fucking up the truck? I'd just chain it up to the rear frame and have a go...

    I pulled out way worse but that was with my old bulletproof 4.0L Ford Ranger, and she had plenty of low end torque.

    Take a pickaxe and break up the ground around it first

    If it doesn't work. Take an axe an cut roots all way around. An it will. Hope you don't bend that pin you would be able to pull 5000 lb trailers any more. :ballchain:

    I thought it be better than the frame, since these things tend to bend/twist with only slight weight/impact.

    I have done this with my old truck a few times. It is important to loosen the ground beforehand and get the chain as low as possible/ under is better. Just go slow, and when it starts to go, it will probably go quick.

    Did it several times, used a Bubba rope and the front tow hook / rear hook ups depending where the stump was.

    Just dig around it and chop the roots you can get to and go slow, or
    Remove your tailgate and give it a good yank and it will load itself in your bed.

    Uh, yeah, that stump ain't coming out with your little Toyota. :rofl:

    Here's a full size truck failing to pull a stump of about the same size:


    and I can't find the link but there's a video out there where some clown hooks on to a stump and has a bunch of slack in the rope. He then proceeds to give it full throttle. Let's just say very bad things happen when then end of the rope is reached.

    All that said here's how to remove a stump like that without damaging you or your truck. Hook onto the stump and pull on it good and tight. Keeping tension on the rope put it in park. Then dig around the base cutting all of the roots that are under tension. In my experience it will only be one or two. Then get back in the truck and repeat the process. It ain't as sexy as just popping the stump out in one pull, but in the real world that never happens anyway.
