Three months ago bought a 2017 TRD OR short bed four door. So far I really like it! The engine seems well built, wish the power range was lower in the rpm range like most trucks. The six speed tranny does shift a lot but that is to be expected, most people are not used to a tranny with 5th or 6th gears. A V6 3.5 does not have the torgue to pull up the slightest hill so it will down shift a lot while in 5th or 6th. People complain about the ford and GM trucks downshifting all the time with their 6 and 8 speed trannys. So far I am getting 18 to 18.5 mpg in town and 21 to 22 on the hwy. Truthfully haven't driven a lot of hwy driving. The only mods I have done is installed a brake controller for my camper and a set of White Knuckle sliders. Buy the truck I think you will be happy! Just my two cents!

Get the manual trans trd sport or off-road and it will eliminate half of those worries so I've heard

Just over 8000mi in my '17 TRD Sport DCSB 6spd and as mentioned many times, love it :burnrubber:!! This truck has been flawless as I expect it to be. It performs as expected, from speed, towing, hauling dirt/lumber etc.., hauling family on road trips, light off-road, work, tugging out bushes :ballchain:. I personally highly recommend the Tacoma.

My 2017 Tacoma is cheaper to insure than my 2011 Murano and isn't much different from my 2004 Xterra, so.....I don't know what the heck.

Save yourself some grief and pain by keeping your 2nd gen. Your 2015 is arguably the best year Tacoma ever made. The 3rd gens have so many birthing problems right now.

If you had a 2005, maybe, but a 2015? Keep it!

Speaking of Ridglines...I saw one hauling a full sized ATV on the bed. I could believe my eyes. Could not get my phone out fast enough for a pic.

Any vehicle can have problems and the flip side of that is any vehicle no matter the reputation can be a good one. Prime example, I bought my 2005 Dodge dakota brand new and I still have it and its running great, despite dodges reputation. I came here because I was very interested in the 3rd gen Taco and still am, but I am going to wait for the Ranger for two reasons. If it fits my needs and looks good I will probably get it, if I dont like it, then it will be competition and I can can use that for leverage on Tacoma negotiations.
Point being, you take a chance on any vehicle and you can't base your decision on what you read on the forums, cause if you ask everyone on here my dakota should have blown up 10 years ago. If I were you with a 2015 I would wait a few months for the 2018 to be released.

I wouldn't buy one again without at least an overnight test drive. Just too many quality issues for me.

Be honest. How many of your issues would you have found on that overnighter?

I bought one 6 weeks ago. It's a nice truck. I had a 2nd gen as well. It was a great truck too. I was a tad disappointed with the acceleration, but honestly it's not bad. It's just different. You have to push the pedal in farther than you would on some other (older) trucks. Once it picks up - it will go. I think the basic summary most people would give is that it's not as refined as would be expected. Not terrible, but not as refined.

The flash and the rear diff bolt TSB didn't apply to mine (were done at assembly). The low trans fluid was a problem on mine, but I forced the dealer to take a look (they did, noticed the problem, added 3/4 qt). Other than that, it's been flawless.

With all of that, I still say it's the best mid sized truck when the score is tallied. I drive them all before buying....

Have you driven the new Colorado or Canyon? You can't beat the Taco if want the truck for wheeln' but if you want quite and comfort. It's night and day. I wouldn't have considered a Chevy a couple years ago, but they didn't win the Truck of the year for nothing. I hate to say it, but Toyota has some catching up to do.
