I did a trip up 880 (San Jose to oakland) last Saturday. Dealing with all the insane Saturday traffic on 880 north, I got 18MPG. I took 580 to get back (to hopefully avoid 880's garbage)and got 19.9. 580 to 680 has a lot steep hills.

    I did a short trip on 101 off-peak and I averaged 22mpg at 60mph. If I go to 75+, mileage dips.

My tire pressure is around 33-34 depending on the temperature. Should I go higher? Also I think removing the mudflaps might help

    I also have a MT

Dang I wish I could get that I average about 16 acourse 3 inch lift and 33's don't help but even when she was factory I couldn't get over 21.

I work in disaster response for the army. I like the idea of knowing my truck is loaded out and topped off at a moments notice.

That's really cool. Good for you, and us!

Although, is it a second car or do you drive from gas station to gas station?

I feel like they severely undersized the fuel tanks.

I'm a bit of a hoarder when it comes to supplies. I have 12 gallons worth of fuel pre loaded at my home and typically cycle through the fuel to ensure it doesn't sit for too long.

Arizona is a bit spread out so there are places where you won't know where the next fuel point may be. If I know I'm heading to the outskirts of a town and see a gas station, yea I'm probably topping off, taking a piss, and grabbing a red bull before I leave civilization.

Might seem odd but its second nature at this point. I wouldn't be surprised in our own way we all have our own little odd vehicle superstition or ritual.

    Thanks for the support guys!

That is some of the more ridiculous shit I've heard in a while. You are literally wasting hours of time so that in the off chance you have to drive to a disaster you have at least 3/4 of a tank? What kind of disaster are we talking? Katrina? Earthquake? Wildfire? Dirty Bomb?

It would make more sense to carry around two 5 gallon Jerry cans around with you than what you are doing.

    Sounds legitimately OCD.

I've seen better, but this is fairly representative...70 mph and going from 10,400 ft down to about 5,000 ft.

    And? Why do you care?

You described his job pretty well.

I'm ok with it and it's people like him who will be there, prepared, for the events you described.

    Pretty cool in my book.

It sounds like he's using his job as a way to rationalize a ridiculous habit, and you guys are too busy swooning to call a spade a spade. It's irrational and strange. (to his credit: he admitted it was an "odd ritual"...which actually lends more credence to the ocd thing)

I don't particularly care what he does or how he wants to live his life. I was just commenting on an internet forum in response to a ridiculous thing I read.

What an asshole way of thinking. You can also move along without comment. People do it all the time.
