    Yes. But:

    1. You could damage your spare.
    2. You have to drop your spare. Mine is under the bed and would be hard to get to if I was stuck.
    3. You have to dig out your spare. With the deadman, you just unhook two of the straps and it pulls right out of the hole. No backfilling required either. It's bad enough that you have to do it once. Then carefully dig again trying not to damage the tire or wheel.

Not sure about using it for boulders. They used it inside out, like you do with your underwear on the 3rd day of camping, so the fabric protects the straps from abrasion.

I'm not 100% sure it will work perfectly, but it's not that pricey and takes up much less space than a pull-pal.

Edit: Just checked out the Pull Pal. $500. Or $375 for sub 6000 lbs vehicles. +$50 shipping. Weighs 50 lbs.

ok smart guy, last question. how often do you go technical mud/sand (no trees or boulders) wheeling without at least one friend?

even with this tool, what do you do if you break something way out in these dangerous lands solo?

this is a cool piece to add to your #instalanders kit, but its getting more buzz than a lot of other awesome items that i use almost every trip.

EDIT: i will still get one #forthegram
