Thanks...I will try this. How long should the 2x4 run be, basically as long as the squeak? Would you still block between the joists?

EDIT - I assume to be effective, I should screw both into the joist and the subfloor (at an angle?)?

It depends on how much deflection your floor joist have when they are loaded . All blocking does is create load sharing between joists which will stiffen the floor possibly but if the subfloor is moving independent of the joists you could still have a squeak

If you bond 2x4's to the joists and underside of subfloor it will stop the subfloor from being able to move independently from the joists and eliminate and squeaks caused by that movement

I would cut the 2x4's a foot or so short of the joist length and don't skimp on the PL Premium

The nails or screws are really only holding the pieces together until the glue sets up , use a thick bead on top so it will bridge any gaps and you should be able to just use screws into the joist

So today is a day thats been a long time coming , we poured our heated slab and my decision to go the get the building watertight first and then pour route was justified today as it has been hot and sunny for about a week but this morning its overcast and pissing down rain

In lieu of grade stakes in the large areas we spun the rotary laser to set levels to screed off of

4 hours later , 29 cu yards of 32 MPa concrete placed and finishers back on our first section floating the edges

Floor cuts happen Friday , grinding and polish happens in 21 days

Be very very careful with this. It's very easy to cause bowing in the middle, or blow out your drywall or plaster on walls.

I didn't have electrical issues with coons... but this weekend one fat mother hauled off with a brand new full loaf of sourdough bread and I was less than 5, FIVE! feet away. Bastard was in stealth mode, snuck up and ran like hell.

Well if mom would've moved into house she bought more than 10 years ago she would've heard the coons partying with the local slutty possums and squirrels in the attic.

Especially true if no subfloor adhesive was used

Totally makes sense now that I think about it, just never really put any thought into the reason a floor would squeak, never had an issue before. Especially now, my sub floor is a concrete slab, squeak proof.

if you are using nails thats the most of the problem. Also is there anything underneath that holds the insulation? An older house we had, the braces that helped hold the joists perpendicular were squeaking underneath. I put screws in them and the noise went away, also where it was squeaking I put in wood screws and didnt have any problems afterwards.

Wasnt sure where to ask this question, and I sure as shit am not creating a thread for it, with that said. What kind of dust buster or hand held vac does everyone recommend? I have a central vacuum and I hate pulling the freaking hose out for something small.

Was thinking of the following but would prefer a recommendation from actual users (I picked these because of the stars, no other reason):
    https://www.amazon.com/Dirt-Devil-C...9&sr=1-2-spons&keywords=handheld+vacuum&psc=1
    https://www.amazon.com/Handheld-Cor...9&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=handheld+vacuum&psc=1
    https://www.amazon.com/BLACK-DECKER...id=1496257329&sr=1-4&keywords=handheld+vacuum

    Thanks

Don't have any recommendations because I haven't used any of them. Dirt Devil is the cheapest and I'm sure they will all do the same job as well as the other. That is what I would go with based on the choices you gave.

Ring shank nails really hold shit....ask anyone that has ever remodeled something with them in the material...the nail will stay and you literally rip the material through the nails. I use them and PL only now!

I have the next model up on the Black and Decker (the CHV1510 think it is). I like it overall. Its nothing to fancy but works fine. It does pretty good at dog hair too.

If you get and groove or even if not if the floor is too tight you can get squealing as well. If you can narrow down the spot and it happens to be between two proceed of wood run a saw Zac blade down the center and see if it helps.

Hey guys. Question about a pvc joint leaking. It is in a drain pipe right below a toilet. An elbow comes off the toilet and into some 3" pipe. Normally I'd just replace the joint but there is nothing to work with on the toilet side. I am thinking about doing the cut a coupling and seal it against the joint method. Does that seem like a good solution?

Pic would help but you could use a socket saver to remove all the pipe from fitting then glue in new pipe with new flange with fast set gray glue.
