I need some help and thanks for checking out this post.
    2012 tacoma double cab 4x4
Lately Ive been having an issue of when I press the brakes in the steering wheel shakes and have yet to figure it out. So far I checked the rotors and they looked good and smooth so I changed the front brake pads...no help. Changed the rear shoes and drums (they were rusty drums) and the steering wheel shake was reduced alot for a few days but now it is back. I did notice when I spun the right rear wheel, there was a spot during rotation that it seemed to be tight/grabby. Adjusting the spring didnt take that away.
My question is do I need to replace the front rotors and brakes or am I looking in the wrong place??

You have brake pad material burned onto your rotors causing an uneven friction surface while braking. People mistakenly refer to this as warped rotors. It takes an extreme amount of heat to warp a chunk of metal. It's brake pad material melting on the rotor.

This comes from driving aggressively and braking too much. It's only worth fixing if you change your driving habits. You can have your rotors turned or replace them.

A lot of people do this and aren't aware they are being too hard on their brakes. Used to happen to me back in the day but not anymore since I don't drive my trucks like I stole them ;)

Id change the rotors and pads. My truck was doing the same and I changed to a ceramic pad and slotted/drilled rotors.

Put a set of rotors on it and be done with it. For future reference, nothing to do with the rear will cause the steering wheel to give you feedback. I've never heard nor seen brake pad material "melted" to a rotor causing runout like that. Brake pads do not melt. That being said, worn out or loose front end components CAN cause steering wheel feedback when you hit the brakes. If the rotors don't solve your issue, move onto that next.

My steering wheel started shaking when I was braking at about 60 mph. I knew I needed pads so I had the rotors turned also.

No more shaking. The rotors were warped..

Try having your rotors turned also.

    Let us know what happens

Have them turned at a shop with a "on vehicle" type lathe. My EBC rotors brand new did the same thing after that problem solved, no steering vibe...

When I worked in auto parts at ADAP, all drums were turned new and most of them were slightly warped. I ran the lathe that cut them and was surprised how bad they were for being new. that was 30 years ago too.
