I want a 4 cyl. Access cab 08 / 09 but in checking Edmonds. com do not see any incentives being offered. I am a cheap SOB and do not want to pay full list price. Any idea when the 09's will start discounting? Thanks

    Dale,

Based on my current research on this particular vehicle, the 2008 has a $500.00 rebate and the 2009 has none. In my area (central Texas) my dealer is offering the 2009 4 cyl. Access cab at -25.00 under invoice. Keep in mind, that this is invoice pricing, therefore there is a 3% dealer profit (Holdback) built into this price, in my case around $600.00. so the dealer is still profiting $575.00 on the sale. How much further they will discount will be determined on your region and basic supply and demand.

When I just got my 08 the dealer said it would be a few months after the release of the 09 before there would be any real discounts on them. This was in Florida though, so I'm sure it varies by dealer/region.

Just got 09 4x2, DC, TRD Sport pkg with JBL, backup cam, tow, etc. for 26K, invoice was 26610, live in the Phoenix area. OTD was 28500. The salesmen are sick of selling the weenie hybrids, glad to sell a real car! The interesting thing was they had to go to Tucson to get the spdway blue. the salesman was on his way to make sure it got on the tow truck ok and he got a call that someone hit the truck. He had to come back to Phoenix and locate another one. Finally found one and we drove that baby home today!!
So for those of you having trouble, my advice is call dealerships and ask them to fax you invoices and how much they will sell the truck for. Look at the invoice and find the junk fees like dealer holdback and other handling fees. Let them know that these are extras and work from there. Yes, they are selling other cars, but the trucks are not moving, they are willing to deal, even the 09s. They have 4.9 for 60 mths and 3.9 for 48 that they tried not to disclose but I did my homework.
BTW, they make more money on bonuses from Toyota for getting great surveys from happy customers and 50%+ profit on service business, they are not just making the money on the cars! They want you back in their dealership! Good Luck and don't back down!!

08 seems the way to go if you want a better deal right now. My truck was 28,900 OTD and was able to play 4 dealerships in 2 states against each other to get it down to 21,800 OTD. You can get a good deal but it will take some work and patience, which is the hardest part. It probably didn't hurt that toyota took my 95 away (rust) and gave me way more then I paid, which they thought I was going to put down on the new one.

Also try to get as many extras (floor mats, nerf bars etc) thrown in as possible during the deal process.

Or if sales fall below a certain amount. I would look for an 08 if you want the better deal. A month ago they had a $2000 rebate on 08 models.

Now this is my kind of shopper. Shop smart! have dealers compete with each other. I once told a dealer in another state that I saw no benefit in shopping with them compared to a dealer in my state. So I said I'm only willing to do business with them if I see a benefit that's worth the out-of-state trip! I also said I'll buy at their price of 26k for an '08 double cab automatic 4X4 w/ sport pkg if they added tube steps and a bed extender at no cost to me...they agreed!

I didn't get a truck yet (as I'm interested in the '09 model - and I'm waiting to find the right deal or incentives - which will probably come later this year)...I'm just testing the waters right now. feelinthegz is right, trucks are not moving as fast as they were before...so if a dealer gives you a price that's not realistic with market demand, and you accept their price, then they know that there are still suckers out there who have little knowledge of the truck/SUV market. If you tried to sell the truck a few months later..you'll get below KBB market value!

He got it for 26k - then that would make it $2,500 in taxes and fees...yikes! Also, Toyota has raised the sticker price on the Tacoma '09 model due to inflation and having airbags and VSC standard. I agree that dealers are scammers. that's how they make their living.

That's right 8.1% tax, 369 doc fee, 199 for some insurance that covers items inside vehicle and other expenses if truck is stolen. I would definitely get the '09, the changes are small but mighty!!
