I came back to a Tacoma after 18 years of driving company cars and my Audi Allroad. At first, I was a bit freaked about the lack of firepower my Tacoma has but once I made the mind-shift that I wasn't driving a sports car with a turbo, it was fine. This does exactly what I bought it to do. It doesn't do it quickly, and it certainly doesn't do it by sipping the fuel like an aperitif.

Best advice is to take it to the dealer and have them look at it. Mine gets somewhere around 17 on average depending where I'm driving. We have plenty of vertical in the Black Hills and it goes up and over them just fine. Take it in, ignore 95% of what's on here when it comes to whining, and move forward.

You have unrealistic expectations on mpg. Its common knowledge that the rated mpg is only in the ideal case. Being 50-60 on flat ground. Getting bad mileage relative to the advertised estimates on a 2 mile stop-go trip is completely normal. 75 is too fast if you care about MPG as well. There's a steep decline in MPG for anything past 65 really.

Tbh if you get stressed about MPG you bought the wrong vehicle. All things considered in today's market the Tacoma doesn't get good gas mileage. Is what it is. Most don't care.

For as gutless as this thing feels and as shitty as it shifts it should be getting 23 to 25mpg average. Then I would be satisfied. The step back in performance and sacrifice in driving characteristics was not worth the very marginal increase in fuel efficiency to me as a consumer (And apparently many others who are irritated by it)

I lived closer to LA before I bought my house. Driving in the city was like driving a boat through a hallway.

Didn't they "allegedly" started up from day one when one of googles upper techs left the company and stole a crap ton of data with him used to startup uber? Now the CEO whos has been called upon by google in court is refusing to meet and settle which will ultimately shut them down?

Yeah. Speaking of what - this is extremely restrained - IMG_4148.PNG.jpg 10.7 L/100 Km is about 22 MPG. And my engine is 4 liters. As you can see driving for an hour. To Costco and back.

What you show is "strange" at the very least, but then again - you went to trouble of listing specs and model of an alternative vehicle. So kind of no point arguing.

I also drive a MT and I actually get good mileage. I live out in the woods so my trip requires steep hills, highway and small roads. Overall I never seen my gas mileage go lower than 16 even on the hills that keeps me on gear 2.

You are going 75mph in a heavy ass truck, what do you expect?

Most people dont realize this, but the average speed that the EPA derives their expected MPG highway is.....ready for this...48mph. Yup, it's that low

You just answered the question. Drive slower to get good mpg. Cruise in the slow lane at 65 and get there a few min slower. It's relaxing to not always be in a hurry. Pull your head out of your ass.

This just happened. My dad borrowed my truck this morning to tow my 8'x12' landscape trailer for ~45mi trip to pick up his new tractor. He just said averaged 21.6 to 22.2 according to my computer empty trailer. Towing back with the garden tractor, he averaged 19 o 20. He just told me, didn't ask, but holy shit did I laugh due to this thread. Something is wrong with your rig or you OP.

Lol I can hear the entitlement in your voice. You'd be "satisfied" if a 4,300lb body-on-frame 4x4 truck with a 32 degree approach angle and 9" of ground clearance got the gas mileage of a 3,500 pound fwd economical crossover??? Because 23 to 25 is exactly what you should expect to average in a fwd rav4, no shit you should be satisfied with that itd be a goddamn miracle!

Its basic fucking physics people get real.

    That wasn't my expectation.

    My expectation was:

    1) dependability and reliability- (every other post on Tacoma world relates to something going wrong with the car. Consumer reports issued a warning against the tacoma. feel like it's only a matter of time before something happens to my car )
    2) aggressive looks (expectation met)
    3) 20/17 mpg, but actually a lot more because that has been my experience with my previous Toyota autos. (Expectation not met)
    4) low-end torque and power based on my 10 year experience with a second gen tacoma. (Expectation not met)

Full sized applications are doing as well or Better than the Tacoma with more power and more basic capability

I too drive a MT, live in a city with multiple lights. I drive exactly how I want and don't pay too much attention to the mileage itself (only record it for curiosity). My WORST tank is 19.7 MPG, and that was with the truck sitting idle with the AC going for the baby a lot. I tend to think when people report terrible mileage it is generally how they drive (with the rare occasion being a problem with the specific vehicle, not the whole line).

full size applications don't have 32 degree approach angle and 9" of ground clearance. Whats the RTI score of a chevy Colorado?? Oh that's right it couldn't even make it up the test ramp

Like I said, its not complicated, its BASIC physics.

Eh that F-150 I mentioned averaged about 17mpg at 80mph. It was the 3.5 eco boost and aluminum body. No miracles there. The thing sure did roll out when you hit the gas though.

I had both 'reflashes' and my mpg hasn't changed since day one. You can check my fuelly. I get 20 average and have been getting 20 average since day one. It's all how you drive. I towed 2000 pounds over the weekend and it got 18

Recent experience with my Tacoma. Four and one half hour drive one way from Pa to Va for a fishing weekend. Actual calculated numbers =23.92 miles per gallon. Truck fully loaded with suitcases, two large coolers (filled), fishing equipment, food, whatever else my woman wanted to bring. Running 70-75 MPH up and down Va hills. I love my truck and very happy with mileage!
