Let's See Some Softoppers

Does it make sense to use just as an added bonus? Little preventive measure?

 

Like I said, never used it.

 

I sealed my seams with two coats 24 hours apart before it ever saw any rain. It was at least another couple days of drying time before it finally rained.

I have some seams where I can see light, but no water comes through the seams. The seam sealer is somewhat translucent so it's possible it is blocking the water, but not the light.

 

Anyone have tips for tightening the back window on the Softopper? Mine has some mostly vertical ripples that slope towards the outside on both sides. Maybe the top is pulling up too much and I should tighten the rear straps? Maybe I should back in at work so I don't see the back when I'm walking out to my truck?

 

It all depends on where you live. I consider myself lucky that I've had mine for over 3 years and never had an issue with people getting into the bed. But maybe my swing out deterred some. Also had the dog window in the front so hopefully if they did get in to try and open rear window, they wouldn't have to slash the topper window.

 

Have you tried moving the topper up and down to the different mounting holes? Or sliding the mounting brackets around on the rails? Also playing with the back brackets that hold the window stay bar might help...

 

I moved the back brackets back and that seemed to help a little. The rest of the topper is perfectly snug so I'd hate to move it to a different mounting hole.

I noticed that one of the clamps isn't fully seated in the bed rail, so I'm going to pull is off and re-seat the clamp and align the rails. I think I'll also move the clamps closer to the ends. Maybe this will help things.

It's not bad, it's just not drum tight like the rest of the Softopper.

 

Well if the rest is perfect don't bother with the center brackets. When I seated my rails I pushed them as far out as I could. Maybe do one clamp at a time, check the seating and push it towards the exterior of the bed while tightening the clamp?

 

Anyone make the switch from hard top to soft top recently? I'm thinking about getting a tan sof topper and maybe an all Pro rack to go over it for a RTT down the line.

 

Not recently. But I've owned two trucks with hard shells and now that I have a Softopper I will never own another hard shell again.

 

I wanted a hard shell for almost a year and finally found one. Had it for about a month now (it's getting old climbing in and out to get items) and I'm really liking the versatility of the sof topper. If I ever get a RTT I can just get an All Pro style rack that goes over the softopper

 

Want to take a wild guess at how much easier it was to load this stuff with my Softopper?

 

Better yet get a rugged utility trailer and put the RTT rack on that. Drop camp then wheel without that heavy, CG changing, tree catching weight sticking up there.

 

Looks good. How does it hook up there? Easy to take off and put on?

 

It's attached with zip ties in the for corners. I just leave it up full time.

 

Hi all, I'm looking into buying a softopper and am interested in what you DON'T like about yours. I only need a solution to keep gear dry, but thought softopper would be better than tonneau for volume and taller items, and I could sleep back there better as well under a softopper. My immediate concern is I use the truck as a truck - considering the softopper will be folded into the bed the majority of the time, is that going to put a damper on hauling things like sheets of plywood etc? and is the canvas going to get damaged from building supplies if it, while folded in, doesn't prevent me from hauling materials/ladders?

 

Buy the boot cover and no issue with it flopping in the wind when it folded forward and running highway speeds.

Only other issue is you can't carry stuff on top like a hard cap.

Other than those 2 things, there is nothing else that bothers me about the Soft Topper.

 

With the right rack, you can do both. But get the boot if you are going to run with it folded down. Also its light enough and easy to take out and put back on.
