4" lift. Do I need shims?

I currently have a progressive aal in the rear sitting at 1 3/4" lift. I purchased some fox 2.0 meant for a 4" lift that comes with 2" blocks. Am I ok to install this combo and then buy some shims when I get around to it or should I not even think about it until I get the shims. Secondly.... Do I really even need the shims?

Are the blocks tapered?

 

Does it vibrate?

 

You'll need a carrier bearing drop to if you have vibrations at that height.

 

I got slight vibrations on highway with just AAL. Wheel balance helped some but added CB drop and better still but still noticeable above 65-70.

Just dropped a shim in yesterday when I did the Ubolt flip so hopefully this is the last time messing with it.

Search web /forum for measure driveshaft angles and you can check the driveline yourself. But my guess would be you need something with 4" lift.

 

4" on a prerunner or 4x4? Either way, you'll need to rectify the driveline angles. 4" suspension lift on a 4x4 is a no no though.

 

I have a poly carrier bearing I'll be installing along with the shocks and blocks. I don't currently have the stuff with me (being delivered) so I cant say about the blocks being tapered

With a lift over 3", your CV joints will eat themselves. If you look in the 35 and 37 inch tire threads, those guys are all running 2.5-3" suspension lifts and they cut and hammer away anything that rubs.

 

4" are normally drop down kits.

 

I have minor driveline vibes with a 3" lift in the rear and CB drop. I'm just going to say fuck it and put in a single piece drive shaft.

 

Up front I have 2.5" lift and .5" body lift. Going to bump the suspension up to 3" this summer. It was close to 3, but armor, etc has weighed it down.

 

This is just the rear. At front I have a 5100/885/spc uca combo sitting at about 2.5 lift. I have a full set of rci steel skids coming that should drop me down to 1 3/4-2" in front so I might go with some 886 coils. I run 265 70 17 and am not planning on changing tire size and have no rub. I would like to be at 2.75 in the front 3.75 in the rear. I do carry a leer and some tools all the time in the rear plus the gas tank skid I'm sure I'll be able to get to where I would like to be. My worry is the drive line angles.

 

One piece seems to be the only way to really get rid of vibes.

 

On 5100s you can run up to a 1/2" spacer (1" lift) without running out of up travel. I have 885/ 5100// 1/4" spacer right now.

I keep about 500 pounds in the bed of my truck at all times and it sits at 25" from center of hub to fender. That's 3" of lift. It has severe rake - the back looks too high IMO. And I have vibes, even with the CB drop.

 

You'll also want extended rear brake lines if your going up 4"

 

Shims will be a must. CB drop probably will too

 

Depends if droop is extended too.
