Had mine in today. Needed an alignment and wheels balanced only 1000 miles on the truck. Had them check while I had it in there, the Rev1 TSB already applied and no leak on rear diff. Retorqued and sent me on my way. All work done under 3/36 warranty.

This brings up a good point...

Toyota (corporate) is telling the dealers to keep these vechiles until a fix is issued. Presumably because they do not want to risk damaging the rear differential.
However, those of us with Off-Roads and Pros who are not on the recall list and are seeing the same issue/symptoms, and who have taken the precaution of taking our vehicle in out of concern... We're told that it's normal, or no issue, bolts are re-torqued and we're sent on our way, again presumably with any problem having been addressed and taken care of.

WELL WHAT THE FUCK KIND OF SENSE DOES THAT MAKE?!?!?

It's either broke and not able to be correctly fixed until the new parts and/or procedure is in place and available, or it's nothing and the procedure is to re-torque the bolts.

Had mine checked by the dealer and all was good. Bought brand new on 9/28/16 with zero issues so far, damn good truck!

That is Toyota sense "perfectly normal"

The dealers don't want to mess with non-recall trucks because there is no money in it for them. They make no money on the recall as well but are mandated to take them. As posted earlier in this thread, Toyota internal document states specifically that the leaks can be small to large but "any leak at all" the truck has to be pulled for remedy. Basically, the dealers are saying, not on the recall list we don't give a shit because we don't have to. As we have seen some of the better dealers have called Toyota Corp about non recall trucks, and corp to them to hold them and or fix them just like the recall trucks.

Toyota knows exactly how and what to do to fix the recall trucks. In the first internal document, there was a line stating to hold trucks so Toyota would have a better idea on how widespread the issue was. Guys trucks are being held until Toyota has enough parts, and has the dealers trained and up to speed to push this through.

There's really no reason for the stealer to keep this truck based on these pics, other than ignorance or right out fraud to rack up $$ from Toyota.

Unless is wet and dripping and I can't see it.

But what I can see goes for 9 out 10 vehicles I see out there. To just tighten, check level, clean and check again in a couple weeks is all that's needed here and non of the drama!
    Geezzz!

What we don't know is how many leaked and had rear ends lock up. We have seen a few here on TW happen way before the recall, but it is possible many more have occurred and Toyota is being sued because o it, we wouldn't know since lawsuits are kept hush hush, but they may be ultra paranoid of more trucks crashing thus the holds on trucks.

I went in for 15 K service yesterday, and dealer said I had the leak. I had previously looked myself, but didnt see it. Its a tiny dime size stain. They wanted to keep it, but could not guarantee a rental pickup truck. I declined to leave it at dealer, and it really wasnt an issue. They said they would call me when the parts came in. Service manager said he "heard" the gaskets were available, but may be a month or so for the nuts.

Going in for 10K on Saturday. Lucky me, the tech who is certified to do recall inspections doesn't work on saturdays, so I get my 10K and get to put off the recall inspection, which will definitely not be happening until remedies are taking place.

Diff looks bone dry so I'm okay putting this off for as long as it takes them to figure it out.

May have found a bit of a loophole there, could be worth looking into whether or not your dealer has the same situation with recall techs not being available on certain days, sounds like a good day for toyotacare!

So I dropped it off at my local dealer and told them that I needed my 10K service and the rear diff looked at because it was seeping oil. Without me mentioning anything else the lady immediately informed me that the recall "fix" would be at least two hours. I told her to double-check my VIN because it's not under recall. She did and confirmed that mine isn't. So I asked her to have them check it under the warranty.

I just got a call back and she informed me that as for the rear diff, there were no leaks found but just as a preventative measure they did tighten down the bolts.

Something is fishy!!!! They are quick to work it and apply the "fix" under a recall but not under warranty?

...you're talking racecars vs passenger cars. HUGE difference. They have straps on their helmet to prevent whiplash and doesn't allow their head to hit anything. They also have 5 point harnesses. and I mean...they're wearing helmets.

Get in an accident and not have the airbags deploy and insurance won't cover any injuries that would've been prevented from an airbag. something to consider.

I'm not too worried about it but if I see it getting worse. I will take it back in for a fix. Hopefully by then they have their act together. I have the super-long 84K-ish bumper-to-bumper warranty even though I did not pay for it!

Got the dreaded call today from the dealership. Parts are on national back order with no end in sight. Looks like I'll be driving the Ram around for a while.

My Taco has been in the shop awaiting parts for my very leaky Diff for 24 days and counting. I sent Toyota a "Motor Vehicle Defect Notification" as instructed in the Florida Lemon Law guide last week. If Toyota doesn't have my truck repaired within 6 days they must replace the truck or provide a refund (prorated based on mileage on my Taco).

Has anyone else gone down the lemon law path in Florida?

Husky Floor Mats. Plastic center console divider. CoverKing Neoprene seat covers. Febreeze air freshener, the stick kind you put on the AC vent.
I took my truck in for the recall notice having no idea they'd hold it until a fix was available. They tried to give me a Camry to drive. I told them that wasn't acceptable. Then they said they had a Rav-4. I asked them if a Rav-4 could carry ten bundles of shingles and a seventeen foot ladder. The lady said no, it could not. Five minutes later they gave me a ride down to Enterprise Rent-A-Car and I drove away in a Nissan Frontier. The Frontier is starting to grow on me.
