I hate that the truck defaults to Recirculate Cabin air. It should stay on the setting you LAST left it on. Here in AZ it will get FUNKY if you do not run the Outside (open vent) air through the system once in a while. I think the moisture collects in there on Recirc and gets that Mary Rottencrotch smell

It's so goddamn stupid the way they have it. You're supposed to run the system in fresh air mode as often as you can to prevent mold, mildew and whatever else decides to grow in there.

@Scooter62 See my above comment. You might need to pick up some evap cleaner or something. You'll plug the drain, Spray it in the vents and cowl and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Then let it drain.

What my salesperson told me is if you want to cool down your car quick, run fresh air mode for a few minutes so the cabin air is displaced, then run recirculate mode to get it really cool. Makes sense to me and it might help "flush" the mildew or whatever you might be having problems with.

I had to clean a really bad one as a tech one time. When you turned on the air (recirc or not) it somehow smelled of a combination of McDonald's, feet and stale twat. It was fucking awful especially since the car was sitting in the hot sun all day with the windows up.

You're only supposed to run 1 bottle through. I ran 5 before I started to feel better about life again. When I close my eyes I can still smell it 13 years later.

I recommended he try spraying Lysol in the outside vents with the recirculation off. Hopefully it will kill any funk in the system

Happens all the time in my GFs Camry. We use this http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/LBGA/96030/N0442.oap

Put the tube into the AC drain hose and fill er up! Let it sit on slight hill for 20 minutes then turn the AC on LOW.

Smell is caused by not using the outside air function. Recirculate all the time doesn't allow for the moisture to evaporate the system.

Not many hills here in the Valley. Would need to drive to the mountains. Believe OP lives in Illinois which is also as flat as plywood.
