Pens doing what they do, this year. Score goals when they need to and take the W. You can break it down however you want but the result is the same. 2 decent wins at home. I'll be happy to take 1 of the next 2 in Nashville and then go from there.

Oh ya, I dont mind the pens winning at all. Im from sids hometown and I like him now in his older years. But just seeing the Preds get bounced year after year by the hawks and other good teams I would love to see them take it this season.

Oh ya. All good. I was just making a general statement, wasn't referencing your post. I realize people would like to see a new team win it all, which is cool.

My point was just in general between media and ppl on here that the Pens haven't been a team that plays a solid 60min game, like they were last year. All year they have a span where they maybe get outplayed or look sloppy but at the end of the day they find a way to win. Usually either Murray or Fleury are a part of that, making timely saves and then there is enough offensive talent to go down and score when we need one. It's a weird team this year, but they get it done (so far).

It appears to me that Nashville has had excellent puck control for great stretches, more than enough to look as though they should have more to show for it. That said, Pittsburgh has finishers, guys who make the best of their moments. They don't need to push for more because the Preds haven't really forced them to. The big question i would ask is : Can the Preds get out there in front by a couple and still continue to dominate puck possession? I am not so sure. Nashville seems to lack the finish Pitt seems to have in spades.

I think the Pens know that their defense is a little bit vulnerable if they start to chase or get into a battle with a team who can also move the puck well. To me it seems like they are playing it safe until they have to, because they aren't confident that Nashville has the firepower to gap them. And if Preds do score, the Pens have quickly fired back and potted one of their own. But like you said, if they can get one and then go up by 2 or something, then we will see. I'm sure they will be fired up to be home, in that atmosphere. Pens have their weaknesses and are probably trying to mask them until they have to open the game up. That is why they seem so opportunistic. They can open it up if they have to but that can backfire, since Preds do have a great top 4 who can move the puck and create a ton of problems for our problematic D (see Mattaa getting walked last night, as a great example). But with Murray playing the way he is and the Pens seemingly being able to score whenever they need to, I just don't see Nashville rattling off 4 of 5 to win the series. They might get 1 or 2 though.

Murray is top-notch. Tough fact to counter considering what we saw last year as well. If Rinne shuts the door and the Preds outstanding defensive squad get serious we could have a series. Neal is a timely goal scorer for Nashville typically. I hope he brings it for game 3. It would be a shame to see a SCF series quickly and definitively sitting on the precipice of the proverbial broom.
