thinking about a Nav system - Z110BT anything better than that one?

I like the Z110BT. I have read lots of threads on it. Anything better?

Also, I will probably put my CDA105 up for sale.

I have the z110bt and absolutely love it. Does everything I would ever want a navi unit to do and then some. Plus I've always had great experiences with Pioneer head units.

 

I was looking at that same HU yesterday at the audio store. It is real nice. I was going with the kenwood until I saw and played around with the Pioneer. Kenwood has a better Nav(Garmin), but I have no Nav now in my truck, so I would not know the difference.
There is a $200 rebate on that unit until the end of March maybe to the end of April.
I was quoted a price of $1600 out the door with the rebate. That included the HU, steering wheel controls, backup camera, Ipod and installation. Not sure if that is a good price or not. After I saw that unit I started thinking, would like to have it, but $1600 is a lot of money.

 

Are you serious??!! The nav from the p1 is virtually worthless, and yes I do own one! In fact, I took the p1 out and run a portable Garmin unit. The only reason I haven't gone to a Kenwood or Pioneer is the ability of the W505 to control the H701 processor.

To the OP, while I haven't personally used the Z110BT, it seems like a solid unit and gets good reviews. The Kenwoods do use Garmin nav, and there is a new unit coming out (9660 I believe) before to long that will more closely rival the features of the Pioneer. If didn't need the processing power of the H701, I'd probably try out the Z110 myself. But honestly, whatever you do, DO NOT get the Alpine W505/P1 combo if navigation is a priority for you. I just purchased a Eclipse 726E. Should be in tomorrow, and then I get to do the install. As for the Z110BT, the other Pioneer units were absolutely awsome. Great navi as well as good sound quality. Not a bad choice at all!

 

Tough choice, but there are many that are all fairly comparable. Benefit to the Eclipse is that it's plug and play, the downside to that unit is that Eclipse is leaving the car audio market.

I personally am deciding between the Kenwood Echelon and the Clarion.... been going back n forth for a few weeks now

Edit: I may have left some out, but all of these seem to be the most popular from my research. All fall within the $1000 - $1400 approximately, although you can likely find them on sale for less.

 

I have the z110bt and all I can say is wow. it does everything I could ever want... smoothly. no gliches, quick start up etc.

and about the eclipse... they are not plug and play anymore.

I have been a long time Kenwood user, but the problems I had with the 9140 put a bad taste in my mouth about Kenwood and their customer service. I was going to wait for the new Kenwood 9960, but the price on the Z110BT was too good to pass up. I just bought one from a local shop and they matched the price that 6th ave was offering.

You can see that 6th ave electronics is on the list. You must buy from an authorized dealer to get the rebate.

 

That said this unit is not very good. It tends to lock up quite a bit?

 

A co-workher has on in his truck, it is very nice. Wanted to be sure if I spent a few more dollars something way better on the market.

Hows the Bluetooth sound quality on the AVIC-Z110BT? I've read a few posts on here that say its sounds like talking on speaker phone to the person you are calling. I'm looking for something better than this.

 

Im having bad luck with the other people being able to hear me. but I think it may just be the location of the mic.... maybe?

I bought my z110bt back in december right before the rebate for that month was up (what I was told) so I dind't even try to send it in think I was going to be to late. Do you think I could still get the rebate since they are still doing it? If so how would I?

 

The problem isn't w the radio itself, but with the nav unit. The P1 does have problems locking up, and the maps are very outdated. If nav is your mine priority, the Pioneer or Kenwoods are the way to go.

Now if you were building a system for the utmost in SQ, that would be different. The Alpine W505 w the H701 is about the only way to go for double din while retaining all control from the HU...

 

Over on the AVIC411 forums there seems to be some indications that the Z120BT may not be too far off. Apparently, the manual was accidentally posted for a time.

I think I know what I want for Christmas...

Anytime you ask a question like this, you are going to get 101 different answers from 100 people.

I too just went through the process of finding the "best" HU for my truck. The bottom line is it depends on what you want it to do and your budget or lack thereof. My only advice is to figure out what options you can't live without and what the HU needs to have if you are going to expand your system in the future and go from there.

That being said, here is my experience:

I compared the Kenwood DNX7140, Alpine IVA-W505/P1, Pioneer Z110BT and the JVC KW-NT1. I ended up getting the Z110BT because it had more of the options that I needed. The Pioneer was the second easiest for me to get comfortable with using the controls and get to where I needed in the menus and it also has the high voltage preouts.

I "test drove" all the units (thanks to my local car club filled with audio afficiandos). I didn't like the Kenwood because of the iphone interface and the overall controls (personal preference). The Alpine did have a few lockups, I only experienced them when I plugged my iphone in and someone called or sent a txt before the HU had a chance to mate up with it, the nav was not always accurate (could've just needed updated maps) and sometimes took a long time to boot up, and the bluetooth did not automatically mate up with my phone a few times, I had to manually find my phone and sync it. However, the Alpine had the best user interface IMHO. The only thing I liked about the JVC was the removable faceplate, everything else was not to my liking (again, personal preference). The things that bother me about the Pioneer is that the VR is not intuitive, it also takes a long time to "build VR Dictionary" for my iphone when I hook it up, you can still use the controls, I just don't like the fact that the message stays on the screen for so long. But overall, I am very happy with the sound quality, options and functionality of the Pioneer.

 

Do any of the units have the ability to play movies off a hard drive? I have a Z3 right now and am looking to upgrade in a couple weeks.
