There were a lot of flies. Glad the pre-runner did great. We got off on Indian Truck Trail too. I want to take the trail all the way to the end. I think the entire Main Divide Truck Trail is about 25 miles long and then dead ends. I heard there are some primitive camp sites at the end of the trail.

Camped on the south fork of the Stainslaus River with 13 other TW folks and their families. Don't have the fabric for the popup installed yet, so I slept on a Thermarest on a platform of Frontrunner Wolfpacks. Not a bad view.

A recent (nearly) 7 week road trip. I don't have pictures of all the campsites. My wife has a few others.
    From Western NC.
East on 40 to Santa Rosa State Park for the night.
    Santa Rosa State Park NM.jpg

Then on to Chiricahua National Monument.
We ran into another member there.

Went to Joshua Tree National Park. But, like we were to find later, all the Parks are crazy. Packed busy, loud, etc.
Spring Break, Flowers Blooming, were just 2 reasons we left. And that was on a Thursday.
So we went to Idyllwild, Ca and stayed at the County Park for the weekend.
    Idyllwild County Stae Park.jpg

Then we went back to JT and stayed at 2 different campgrounds. Jumbo Rocks and Belle.
    Joshua Tree Jumbo Rocks.jpg

    Joshua Tree Belle.jpg

We spent a week with my sister in SoCal. Went to Catalina, Huntington Beach, etc.
Then I went to meet some friends in Mojave National Preserve for 5 days.
I cannot believe I did not take one picture. I was having too much fun.

Headed north to Death Valley. 103° so we camped at Charcoal Kilns at 7300'.
    Death Valley Charcoal Kilns.jpg

Then on to Sequoia. We stayed at 2 campgrounds. I only got a photo of the Tacoma at the second one, north.
    Sequoia.jpg

    Kings Canyon was still closed.
Death Valley too hot, Sequoia/Kings Canyon too cold. Damn timing.

Yosemite. Crazy packed, Tioga rd closed, as I already knew.
So, we tried a site, then cancelled and left. My wife had not been there, so she loved the day.

    Yosemite (2).jpg

With so much planned to stay at the places we were just at, we had a week and a half unplanned before we saw another sister in NoCal.
We thought Big Sur. We drove all day to Monterey, Ca.
But, finding out the next morning, all reports were that the campgrounds were closed from fires.

We drove the coast through SF and past Muir Woods and camped at Hendy Woods State Park. Nice.
    (No Image Here)

North to Lassen, closed, south to Oroville. The campground was way to cramped.
Enjoyed some of the cites south. My family name is on a street in one of the cites. My grandfather named it.

We stopped at Black Butte and camped for 2 days at an Army Corps of Engineers campground.
    Black Buttes ACofE.jpg

On to Napa Valley and rented a cabin in Napa Valley State Park for 2 nights before we saw my sister.

Then, Tahoe by way of Hwy 50 to Stateline, camping at Nevada Beach for a few days. We went there in my childhood days, before they built the flush toilets.
I have a picture of me, quite young, with my grandmother on the shore, playing in the sand.
My wife thought this was at least as good as any camp we had on the whole trip.
    Tahoe Nevada Beach.jpg

Visited a friend in Reno, saw Virginia City (Where my wife bought me a beaver felt hat, coming soon in the mail) and then took Hwy 50 (The Loneliest Road in America) toward Great Basin National Park.
    Great Basin National Park.jpg

We stopped to see a friend in St George, then went to Zion. Stayed one night.
    Zion.jpg

At this point we hit bad weather wherever we went. We had spent quite a bit of time in these areas in the past, so no point in staying. We went towards Mesa Verde. Saw a little of it, knowing we were coming back another time to see more. On to Durango, Co. We would have taken the train ride to Silverton, but in bad weather, what's the point of a scenic trip.
On to Amarillo, Tx, but with t-Storms, hail, and a tornado warning we continued on to Oklahoma City. The next day the forecast was tennis ball sized hail, so we got up early and got home that night.

    A great trip.
    I love this truck.

    Ken in NC

P.S. I am all for the National Park system. Monument, Historical Sites, etc.
