I drove a Ford, Tundra and a GMC before buying my Taco. I liked the Ford over the GMC and the Tundra I thought was a little nicer than the Ford. I went with Toyota for resale value and the Tacoma for fuel economy.

Holy crap, that is a ton of incentives. Wow!

Toyota as you said, only gave me $600 discount from MSRP which is our equivalent of the $500 you guys get for mil. Sticker on the pro is $53,100.

IMO the XLT needs leather and a 501A to be comparable to a Pro. The XLT is a bit closer to the OR or Sport. So I decided on the Pro in the Toyota offering, to make a comparison most fair, I looked at a Lariat mostly.

Then just to make it what I would want, I built as a Lariat, Sport with 502A, and 3.5 which locally was about $6000 more than the Pro, give or take other small options.

Then it looks like this. Pro is more capable off-road, and cheaper to run. Higher retained value. Lariat is more comfortable inside, more amenities and really nice seats, tons of bells and whistles. Better towing and better on the Freeway. But more expensive to run, and way more things to go wrong. Retained value, close to non-existent. Like $10-15k loss driving off the lot.

Also did full print outs of dealer recommended service intervals and cost, at each dealer I went to. Ford is about 50% more expensive than Toyota, but about 20% cheaper than the two Jeep dealers I went to, where I determined a Wrangler was a bad option for me in my semi-finals.

Man I think the interior on the GMC is almost too nice. I feel like I'm in a caddy and not a Truck. The tundra is a great truck and well-proven but I sat in one and I felt like I went back to the future 10 years. The Ford styling has just not been my cup of tea but they are starting to grow on me. Some of the styling changes Ford has made in the past year or two(?) seem to be improving the look of the truck. That Raptor does look pretty B.A.

Haha to each their own but this is crazy to me. GM interiors are gross. Look and feel so cheap. It's the main reason I don't think I would ever by a GM product. I like the LS motor and some of their offerings but pretty much across the board the interiors are disgusting. Even the high dollar Cadillac's are so weak for the price.

A good friend of mine has the 3.5 F-150. Gets similar gas mileage as my Tacoma, is much bigger, and he paid less for it than I did my Tacoma. I just had to have a manual trans. Oh well.

FORD'S customer service department is a figment of your imagination.Resale is pathetic.I would look for a Yugo before owning a Ford product again.

Wow 34 for a used one with 10k miles? I'm gonna get an oil change Monday, might have to look around. If they'll give me 30 for mine in trade I may jump into something else. It's an automall so there's like 15 dealerships I can walk to from the service department.

That's just a list price. Nobody in their right mind would pay anything near that. The dealer did say they have had it on the lot for awhile.

    Serious question.

Why do any of you care how many trucks Toyota sells?

I'm an owner, not an investor. I couldn't care less.

    Drive more, measure less.

More vehicles = less residual value.

Other than that, just material for the spank bank or what?

    This.

Everyone talks about resale value when it is really supply-demand.

Ford sells almost a million F series trucks a year.

If someone is looking for a used one, they have literally thousands to choose from so dealers have to make the ones on their lot enticing or buyers will simply cross the street to a different dealer who also has used ones.

Tacomas are more scarce and used ones command a higher premium since they are popular and there are fewer available.

This reference doesn't work with everything though, as it only applies to popular vehicles.

Lincoln Blackwood pickups are scarce too, but resale is in the toilet because no one wants one in the first place.

Years ago I bought a new Jeep Cherokee. It was the biggest pile of crap I ever owned.I traded it in 18 moths later for my first toyota truck. If anyone is that unhappy with their vehicle you should eliminate the problem and move on with your life.
