I like this idea too. Again, new to Tacos, so I like the constructive comments. The stock housing wall is .2" so even trussed can it crease on impact? Does someone make sleeves for the housing arms?

If you go with the HP 60 I have a carrier with the 35 spline.

Go to a junkyard and pull the carrier from almost any 4x4 f250 front end .

You just don't my history, I respect the spirit of repair, build, etc. I'm busy, and I did all that 20 years ago on Jeeps for more than a decade. I'm about spending my time with my son on projects that are more time-manageable. I've done my time rooting around in junk yards. I have the money to be a little more generous in my approach to upgrades now . I've put in the blood, sweat, and tears, just not in Taco-land. I'd rather spend my time planning my next trip.

There is nothing wrong with people buying expensive parts if they can afford it or paying other folks to work on their trucks - It in no way makes them any less of an enthusiast or " offroader " vs the guy with two rigs on blocks in his front yard, sheets of plate in the driveway and the glorious hum of a welder or a grinder pissing off the neighbors constantly. Some folks make good $ but work 70-80hr weeks to earn it and live in neighborhoods with these fun things called HOA's ...or spend the 48 hrs they are not at work with their kids. If I try to use a grinder with a flap disk in my neighborhood I would have every HOA nazi on my ass in minutes and a $100 fine in my mailbox the next day. I have a fully built truck but every bit of fab work done by a local friend...but I guaran-f'n-tee you my truck has seen more dirt miles than 90% of the guys that spend more time building their shit than ever driving them...

oh hell yeah bro are you kidding me...big time. Basically any neighborhood built in the past 20 years is in an HOA you can't escape it but to be honest it is a good thing. If you have to pay what we pay for houses the last thing you want is some " offroader " with two trucks on blocks in his front yard making your neighborhood look like shit....I felt guilt and shame saying that...but really...yeah.

I used to live at my grandma's house neighborhood was 1.6 - 3.5, one of the 49er's lived 3 houses down, and no one gave two fawks about a couple of trucks in the yard. Successful wealthy people don't waste their time with that shit. People all the time would come up and ask what I was working on. I had a shit show going in the front yard, but never had any loud parties, sold any drugs, and turned the grinder off by 8pm never had a problem in 5 years, and I always had shitty trucks on the property.

Poor people that try to act sofisticated is the problem.

If you aren't afraid to do the work then just measure how wide the taco axle is and find another axle roughly the same size maybe a little wider and you're good. If you can find one out of a better truck that would be ideal. First regear it so you don't blow up your transfer case if you shift into 4wd. Then weld on shock mounts, spring perches, a few of those damn mounts for the brake hard lines, and you're good to go! Doesn't have to be the same size though youll already be doing lots of work just trying to put in any new axle, might as well do a little measuring and have some fun with it while you're at it

Yup. That was the prototype built off a first gen tundra axle. He modified it for 2nd gen tacos as well since they are only 1" narrower and sells it as a WIY kit.

Our HOA is so strict you can't even wash your cars at home. I've been fined 4 times, 2 of those were for doing exterior home improvement without paying a $120 fee and submitting my plans to the HOA first, once for using an incorrect unapproved paint color and once for noise from running my grinder with a wire wheel cleaning up some rust...can't use an impact at home either. Technically speaking no automotive repair is allowed at all.

My parents neighborhood they are not even allowed to park in the driveway overnight all cars must be in garage with garage door down.

We are currently looking for a fixer upper in an older non HOA area....

The tube on the axle housing is bent or just the axle shaft? I read the thread looking for this info, forgive me if I missed it.

If you plan on wheeling the truck, which it sounds like you are. Replace the shafts with chromally shafts, much stronger. Most if not all aftermarket gear and axle companies make them.

I'd like to call BS on this but I've dealt with enough HOAs to know these are all probably true. I'd say some of those are a bit overboard for sure. Someone writing the rules in the HOA has never done a thing in their life that they didn't pay someone to do for them it sounds like.

You just described most of the newer "incorporated" communities in North Scottsdale. I avoided them like the plague and bought in an unincorporated older area. Plus now my home doesn't look like everyone else on the block.

I have a bent housing too. From jumping. 2nd Gen TRD off-road. Can't be straightened, would have to be re-tubed on the driver side. Anybody know where to get an empty housing (don't say junkyard, they're most likely bent too)?

I'd love to go Currie or Dynatrac but no funds for that

What about all those pesky sensors they install on the brakes and trucks these days.

Going to have a Christmas light show on your dash with out them. Have to figure out how to mod them to work with a junkyard *axle.

I'd second the currie 9". Ideal.

Although I think I've heard that the Hilux has been using the 8.75" rear end too for a while. I bet you could source one from Australia or Mexico.

    Or a landcruiser... maybe?
