Def one of my biggest "don't want to deal with it" reasons for going with a ready built rear aftermarket axle/diff. Minimal xmas tree festivities on the dash.

Exactly why we put it there. Remove the cap and spin the tire and you can inspect the ring gear.

That's why you transfer the brake lines over and just plug them into the new brakes. Keep the lines, the brake controller, everything and just plug into the new axle. Not losing any sensors so shouldn't get any sensor issues. Even could go rear disc but you would probably want a brake bias controller at that point to get the distribution right.

That's not a stock fill port. From the factory it's off the back side of the housing...which is now completely covered by the truss.

Recipe for disaster! You want the shafts to go before your diff. Same principle with people beefing up their tie rods only to find that now they are destroying their steering racks instead which costs big time compared to tie rods

I like these threads because we're putting wontons in a 35 to 40 k truck. Lol

I mean we building a bouncer right?

To each his own, the Currie isn't a bad price for what it is just call for a final price for a bolt in ready system with ARB shipped and find a local off-road shop for install.

It's a lot of loot when shafts could be had cheap. Carry an extra shaft if serious off-road.

I'd go shafts personally. In a months time if I don't see a D60 in OPs truck now that he said he was gonna do it I'm gonna be mad. Maybe he can persuade me into it. Lol

Edit, 4 link it while you at it.

You're just looking for excuses to not take blame, I get it its a natural reaction. But come on you're not stupid, you know damn well engaging your locker with a frozen wheel can bend shit that's basic physics....

Youre trying to pin them down on semantics because you think they gave you an out by saying the bent axle caused the freeze not vice-versa. You're fixated on the order of operations but truth is it doesn't matter, rather you bent it offroading or bent it because you engaged 4lo and the locker with a frozen wheel... neither situation is covered under warranty so its a moot point.

Also, you're from Colorado and you don't know to not engage the parking brake below freezing (especially directly after offroading)?? That's common knowledge over here in the high Sierras...

Edit: Just realized its probably not below freezing there yet, which makes putting on your locker and trying to "unfreeze" the brake an EVEN WORSE idea! If you had a frozen brake and it wasn't even below freezing you obviously had a failure of some sort, forcing it to break free is just asking for it. If it won't come free with basic motion in neutral or in 2wd then locking up the rear and adding a bunch of torque will logically have a high possibility of bending something.

When offroading you should always have a basic set of tools, it would've been much wiser to remove the drum and see whats up, at the very least hit it with a mallet. Using 4lo and locker to force it free is the very LAST thing you would try, almost as an emergency nothing else worked need to get home last resort....

may be the case but to bend an axle shaft? I feel that was from the trail, unless it really was a defective shaft. But if you go off road you kind of need to live with it.

45 miles of dirt road isn't the issue.... it's how it was abused...... maybe how it was made.... It could be Toyota's fault, maybe not. I'd think some metallurgy would be needed to determine.

Anyways, being new to Tacos and Toyotas, freezing rear brakes.... how and why does this happen?

    This

I'd be pulling a wheel right away. Only time I'm engaging the locker is when I'm stuck and one wheel is spinning. Not to free a wheel.
Then its a battle of what lets go first, the axle or whatever is holding the wheel.
