So happy birthday month to me, literally in between selling a house and buying a house I get rear ended. I'm so glad I had my pintle hook still in the receiver, as it went through the Merc engine...
also my first accident ever and I'm in my 30's!

See below for the beauty shot.

The guy was with Allstate, is anyone a rep or had experience with Allstate?
I'm wanting to get plate bumpers in this process ideally, and they have this new QuickCard Pay option that may allow this to happen.

Anyone have recent experience in this, I'm combing through previous threads and getting some ideas.

Nice Taco - but damn it took a hit! That hitch bend - couldn't that impact the frame?

Yeah it bent and crumpled the frame rails where the factory hitch attaches.
I just got back from Toyota and its a complete frame off, engine/tranny out repair.

The hitch was stopped by the spare tire luckily.

Have them pay you directly and then use the cash to buy a fab bumper.

PS the factory/stock bumper is steel not plastic

Ouch - that frame bend! So receiver hitches unfortunately convert what would otherwise be just easily repaired rear end damage into a bent and usually totaled frame. The factory receiver acts as a lever that tweaks the frame. Having a ball or hook in the hitch on permanent basis just makes the lever arm longer and more effective at bending the frame. On an older truck with a lot of upgrades this can mean insurance will total the vehicle and you'll be left parting out your very expensive build at pennies on the dollar and no compensation for your lost labor.

With that in mind - if you don't tow then take off your receiver hitch. It is the Achilles heal of these trucks in rear end collisions. Or since you are considering a plate bumper consider one that has an integrated receiver hitch that rides higher as part of the bumper so there is no lever point.

With a stock receiver hitch and the need to tow consider getting a special energy absorbing mini-bumper to put in the receiver when not towing. Can't remember the name of it, number of TW members have them and they seem to be quite effective at preventing this kind of damage.

Glad you are OK and hope you get to make an even better truck out of whatever insurance gives you!

A lady hit me doing about 60 I was probably doing 20, crushed her car mind just needed light body work and a new bumper, I went with C4 fab for the new bumper

If you like your bumper I would definitely stick with OEM. I've had a few shops tell me that the fit is hard to beat. Or take the money and buy a plate bumper yourself

It's a tough game to play getting this to work out, it's just the perfect opportunity to do so.
    Quite a conundrum.

If you decide to go with a stock bumper, I have the bumper/hitch combo off my 2015 available. It's a chrome bumper, so you may not like that.

However, it is in perfect condition. I'll make you a good deal on it.

Subbed. I got rear ended last week and I'm trying to use the opportunity to get a plate bumper as well.

...^^^... Kudos to the "Pintle Hook" ... I keep my 3 ball hitch on all the time as a deterrent to tailgaters

Good luck with Allstate and document your damages.

    Pretty much this

Having the pintle hook or any ball hitch makes the damage even more worst by pulling the ball hitch with the vehicle under the truck causing that crumple effect of the frame.

I have the the superbumper and it prevented the frame from being bent and whiplash to me

Pics of the damage to my truck:

Nice exhaust pipe. Did the accident do that?
