Got mine installed. I had a harder time than most getting it where I wanted it. Yesterday was just one of those days where nothing was working out for me. I ended up ruining the gaskets that came with the cap, but I was able to find a similar type at the hardware store. I moved them a few times which messed up adhesive. Once i got it on, the tailgate would not fully close. It was hitting the two bolts that others have mentioned in this thread. I replaced those bolts with a lower profile socket cap bolt. Now all is good. Looks great and feels super solid.

Care to elaborate on what bolts you bought? Pics? I ordered mine last night and would like to be prepared for when it gets delivered if those bolts get in the way on mine. Nothing like having to run to the hardware store mid-install!

It most likely won't happen to you. It's an extremely rare occurrence.

So your saying my truck isn't special?! I beg to differ lol

I understand, I feel like these kinda things always happen to me though so I would just like to be prepared in case. Plus, I'm 30 minutes from a hardware store.

Out of a couple thousand tailgate caps, this has happened maybe 3 or 4 times.

But you're truck is still special. :dancingbacon:

Considering the bolts cost a little over a dollar for 2 it might be worth picking up a few just in case. I believe they are M6x1.00 maybe 20mm long? cap screws.

Oh and I bedlined my cap.

Do you have bed side supports installed?

Yes, I guess that would move the bed sides together causing the issue?

Yep. This is the second time that has happened.

We may have to adjust our design a bit if people are going to be using those things.

Mine came in and unfortunately my tailgate won't shut on the driver side. I also noticed the passenger side has a few marks in the finish from hitting the bolt on that side.

What kind of prep work did you do before the Bedliner? Just sand and spray? Mine had a nice long scratch in various depths on one side and now the marks I've made from hitting that bolt.

It looks like you have bed side supports installed? Those things seem to pull the sides in and make the bolts hit.

Sorry, I don't have those supports. The post I quoted was from a member who does. I was really wanting to know how he prepped the cap for Bedliner. I've never messed with anything powdercoated before and need to clean up the scratch on it and now the sides where they hit.

Awesome product though! I like the heft it adds to the tailgate now I just need to get her dialed in.

Sand, the self etching primer, then bed liner. Worked well.

Just wondering if you worked out the issue with folks using the bed supports? I was about to order both the supports from one TW member and looking / comparing Tailgate caps.

We haven't changed anything, but there also hasn't been any recent issues.

If it did hit your bolts because of the bed side supports, simply swapping your bolts to lower profile ones will take care of it.

Ok, but it looks like the side rail cap also comes down and fastens in the same place. would that be an issue. (sorry for all the questions) I'm looking at a few options to just junk all the plastic.
