And make time to check out the Kolob Canyons section off of I-15 between Cedar City and St. George. It's very literally my favorite place on the planet.

If you have time, park at the Lee Pass TH and hike down to La Verkin Creek and then up to Kolob Arch. Pretty incredible stuff.

I think Jack got a replacement for his tred he broke on the first (i think) outing. If he wasn't whipped as all hell we could tag him and get a response... But.... :deadhorse:

I would buy them again without question. And that's why i went with longer pins on my roof mounts just in case i end up with more.

I'll look them up and add them to the first post.

And time is one thing I'll have plenty of!

Started, got side tracked, but still need to buy a plane ticket to LA from somewhere. They are cheap from Denver but not worth driving back! That'll be the only anchored timeframe.

    @lobsterbait

This is basically what the recovery looked like...

But say you find yourself in the same situation alone. If you find a tree to winch to, nice but it'll only pull you along the edge until you get enough angle of the winch line to pull you sideways. The problem with that is it could get steep and you could cut your line at such an angle... Maxtrax could give you enough traction with winch to get you back on trail.

If you had a tree behind and above to put a strap to them you could pull sideways, but trees are usually placed just out of reach.

So let the haters hate... I use them and have used them plenty and find them to be a great tool in the tool kit... Along with a winch and hi lift, ton of straps and snatch blocks.

Thanks, plenty of them here, trying to get better at writing them up and linking to them from the first post to keep them easy to find.

    Look into Whitmore Canyon.

It's a tributary to GC, but it's actually in the Lake Mead NRA. Dirt roads from St. George all the way there, and the last mile to the rim is pretty rough going as it decends a lava flow. But it is often pretty secluded, and best of all, there's a trail to the river. Hanging out down there at the bottom is a pretty incredible experience.

If you had a few days in the SG/Arizona Strip area, you could check out Toroweap campground as well. It's right at the rim in a section of canyon where it's a sheer drop of a couple thousand feet before it hits the scree slopes and the river.

strap enough of them sleds on the top and you might be able to roll it completely over back on it's wheels.
No way in hell one of those would help on that over the edge situation.. But keep telling yourself it will. Be sure and take pics of your ride on it's top when you do. :D
Back in my day, we used a log, or an iphone, if there was a need to shove something under a wheel. Save that cargo space for something you might actually need.

They were the saving grace in the same exact situation like I explained a few posts before. I was there, they were my Maxtrax, and I was part of the recovery team gramps.

The edge was loose rock and we got one side up on the trail but didn't have enough angle or grip to get him fully back on the trail without Maxtrax. While winching he turned but it just slid straight. Rig winching from the front was in snow and anchored with a pull pal but still would lose ground if we used too much tension. We tug o war'ed back and forth for a good 15 minutes with no progress until they took my idea and added the Maxtrax for traction.

    cool story bro. :D
No worries Brandon, I know a lot of guys swear by what they spend their hard earned money on.
In over 30 years of wheeling, I've never needed one. :notsure:

Doesn't look like much but he was now in complete loose rock and was not able to get it any further while winching and using his own power. Maxtrax deployed and we got him on trail as the blizzard rolled in.

But haters gonna hate, I'm not here to change minds, just produce facts. :p

You never used a winch or GPS when you wheeled before they were invented... Doesn't make them bad but I know change is scary for your generation.
