Hello all!

I am doing some research on different brands of springs and shocks.

I wanted to ask how well the OME full kit is holding up long term wise?

How many miles do you have on it and have you had any major problems?

 

The OME springs and the Dakar's are the real deal and well worth the money. Can't speak to the nitrocharger's though since I went with the 5100's. Awesome kit whichever way you go with the shocks.

Anymore details you can provide on the basis of your research? Are you planning on putting on armor? Wanting to stay close to a stock ride quality? Daily driver, overland build or something in between?

 

Looking for long term shock/coil/leaf spring quality and price point.

The armor will be longer down the road and the weight when I travel is around 500lbs. I pack hiking gear for lighter weight reasons. I tend to hike places and if I do go off-road, it will not be intense.

I was thinking the 884x and light duty leaf springs for stock ride quality.

It will be a daily driver and I have to travel a good distance (10k miles round trip) for the places I like to go.

I'm looking at the 6112/5160 setup as well. Just getting opinions and broadening my ideas on kits. I value ideas and opinions.

The 6112/5160 combo is next level off-road performance. The 884X's paired with 5100's or 90021's and a progressive AAL will be just fine for your needs. So many ways you can go with it as I'm sure you know.

Check the length of the 884's vs your stock springs. 884's are good for an inch-ish of lift on a second gen. They might not do anything on a 3rd gen.

 

I looked on Headstrong's site and the chart said for the third gen with nitrochargers 1". It does seem odd that on a second gen you get an inch or so. Then they say an inch on the third gen. I looked at the catalog and it pointed out the features to promote less sagging. Could it be the newer "x" spring?

 

How much lift are you looking to get? I would contact ARB directly in this situation. I think most of the heights are based on pre settling of the suspension. Which is kinda false advertising. I originally put 885's on my truck because I wanted 2.5" of lift. That's what it was for about a week or two. After everything settled it was 1.75". I contacted ARB and they said that was in the accepted range for my truck. Have you ever noticed the disclaimer most sites have "lift height may vary".

 

I am looking for about 1-1.5" of lift. I think I will have to call them. Thanks for the input!

 

FWIW on my 2010 I got 1.75" with 884s and billies. Was running multiple pieces of armor too.

 

Is the perch on the 0 setting on the 5100 higher than nitrochargers?
Did you like the nitros when you used them?

 

I think they're close enough to be a negligible difference. I still have nitrochargers, I would recommend getting the softer version of the two if you go with them.

Quick question, I have a 15 DCLB Sport 4x4 and need some additional ground clearance but do not want to sacrifice any ride quality. I have sliders as well as a camper shell, which is probably the long term weight I will be carrying on a daily basis. I don't plan on running a 285 because of mpg and other potential issues (I may change my mind in the future). I have read great things about the dakars and I know I can remove leads to lower total height.

1. Which/how many springs can be taken out to reduce overall height?
2. Which front cools would work best in that case to keep some rake.
3. Would an add a leaf better work in my case?

If you're not loading up the back an AAL with 885s and 5100s is a well priced option. Keeps the rake with a decent ride.

Also remember the lowest part of your truck is your diff and you don't get any additional ground clearance until you put taller tires on it.

 

I've had my OME and dakars lift on for a little over a month and my dakars definitely have the squeaks... I routinely do not have any weight in the bed either. Apparently I bought the dakars before the new and improved version. And also have the occasional clunk in the rear over speed bumps and such. Guess I'll just live with it, but it bugs me a little... Other than that though I love it, and it rides great and looks great!

 

That's odd. When did you buy your Dakars? Should've came with the isolators and pads as of 4 months ago.

 

Ive only had dakars about 2 months now and they started squeaking already.
