Thanks. I'll keep them in mind when the time comes.

I usually base my negotiations with dealers around the OTD price. I tell them what I want to pay as a true final price. They either make it happen or not. Makes no difference to me how they divvy up the charges.

Just bought my 2017 Toyota Access Cab SR yesterday after a month of negotiating with SoCal dealers. It was tough to get a really good price. Got Barcelona Red for $22750 + taxes etc from Redlands, CA dealer. Tried to go through Costco but they only take $500 off MSRP ($23,860 on mine). Had to pit dealers against each other to finally get this price. Did everything via web. These trucks are really popular here in SoCal.

Used the Costco program and talked them down another $1100. Played two dealers against each other. Got it for $34500

Friend just beat up a dealership in Vegas and bought 1 for $40K. Sadly, that seems to be the going price now. I know 2 others that spent $42k Get em to throw in all you can get for $40k and your doing good.

I know dealers make money from the lenders they use but what about intrest they charge do they make money on that also?

Most dealers mark up the interest rate by 2% of the lenders buy rate to make profit on the finance end. If the lender gives them a buy rate of 2%, the finance manager will offer you 4% and use the tactic that if you agree to their overpriced extended warranty and other items they will reduce the interest by a percent or two

That's why it's always better to have financing lined up before you go to the dealer to avoid being railroaded.

I am guessing the dealer makes money off the extended warranty, too. The finance guy would not complete the sale until I agreed to include it. They ended up lowering the vehicle price enough to get the extended warranty "at no extra charge." Still not happy, but I took the deal. I believe extended warranties are a waste of money. I hate buying new vehicles !!!

They make alot of money on warranties and other junk. That dealer should have not made you buy the a extended warranty. I would have walked out on that one. Depends on the policy but you may be able to cancel it and get a refund and shop and buy a cheaper one.

Thanks. I will have to look into canceling it. The warranty payment is built into my vehicle loan. Might complicate things, but it is worth a try.

I'm in the process of doing it. The dealer really shafted me on the extended warranty so I canceled it. Ha ha they don't get no money. It will be refunded back to the lender to the principle of the loan. You will not have to pay intrest on it.

There is a big thread on warranties. You can buy another extended warranty before your 3 yr or 36000 miles is up.

Thanks guys. You've convinced me. Who do you contact to drop the extended warranty? The dealership?

You should have a contract. See who it's with and contact them to get more info. I'n my case the dealer had to send the refund back to the lein holder and they deduct that from the principle. I think thats what they are doing with me.

You ended up getting the last laugh by canceling the warranty.
