    Hey all,

Last Tacoma I owned was a 2012 with a dirt logic fab tech lift kit..... Anyways, I just picked up a new 2017 Tacoma, so i gotta ask, why is it with etc off, the truck is awful, but on its amazing?

My other car I drive is an 2013 C350 AMG Benz, so maybe its me?

Just wondering what you all think.

I honestly haven't noticed much of a difference, not sure if it's because I need an update or just haven't paid much attention.

It's not just you. I get way more power and throttle response on my '98 2.7l with it on. It's more important for us since you have the floor the 4 cyl all the time to get to speed versus the v6. I used to only use it when getting on the freeway from on-ramps but now I keep it on all the time.

The 2nd gens have a mod that keeps it on all the time, 1st gens don't have to worry about it disengaging since the button stays on.

My other car is an E320 so I can understand where you're coming from. Switching from driving the Benz with the v6 to my Tacoma with the Inline 4 is a huge difference in power and handling, which is obvious.

I've used it on and off since I got the truck, almost 14k now and the last few
months I don't feel much of a difference when I forget to push the button. There's been
many times when everything felt great and I THOUGHT I had it on but nope, just D.

Best way to describe it is with etc off feels like winter blend gas, with it on feels like straight gasoline.

It's my belief, the only place D shines, is the EPA dyno test.
The EPA dyno test is a shit excuse for real-world driving.
The EPA test is about emissions, just as much as it's about mpg.

D is Toyota's version of the VW debacle.
Since D is default, it's not really cheating.

ECT is the high speed afterburner, use it when you want to go\pass real quick. Without it, it's just a plain jumbo jet.

    Enjoy!

    I agree with this.

I leave it in D when I'm on the highway, but around town it's either in S or S + ECT. Toyota knows how to make transmissions work, but to comply with CAFE standards taller gears = better MPG. This isn't a "mistake" by Toyota engineers.

Does S change the shift points automatically?

Yup, that's your low speed power afterburner. And if you're really picky there's the manual mode.

Why is everyone in a hurry?

The truck's fine with ECT off, you just aren't the first car off the line.

I scratch my head at MPG figures some members state because they're so much lower than my mpg, and then I see threads like these and

My last tank was 24mpg mixed city/highway.

"ECT is an acronym for Electronically Controlled Transmission and the ECT PWR button is a function of the redesigned transmission. When pressed, the ECT PWR button will adjust shift points so you can reach higher RPM levels before shifting into the next gear.Apr 13, 2016"

Center console divider thingy, rubber bed mat and side steps for the wife.
Think of the "ETC" button more like what most mfr's call the Tow/Haul mode.

    You could say that...
But, Toyota's been putting these in cars a while now.
In some Lexus/Toyotas the ECT button supresses power(snow mode).
