The ratchet strap over the RTT is a nice touch. Gives it that tourist with the Sears ExCargo look.

Here it the solution I came up with to the velcro hold downs that drive me crazy.
These are called lashing straps and have a cam lock. They are very easy to use. I like this better than the buckles because of KISS.

    IMG_3957.jpg
I cut the strap between the two reinforcement stitching and melted the ends.
    IMG_3958.jpg
I used a little longer screw because this strap is doubled over on the ends. The center screw goes right at the X in the stitching.
    IMG_3959.jpg
Now do the same thing on the bottom with the strap. Then I put the tag end through the buckle and cut the strap to the desired length and melted the end. I left it a little long because I can shorten it.

Cam straps are the shit. River guides depend on them for good reason.

my tent has 2 straps on each side.

I opened the tent at home to air it out. When i was putting it back together I sat on it, as I was attaching the straps. Helped to compress everything. Not sure if it creates additional damage to the tent. It wasnt my full weight. Just enough to give enough slack on the straps..

    What do you think?

Never strapped it that tight or close to that tight. I needed to get it so the cover would fit. Ratcheting strap will not fit in the space.

Heres my RTT setup. Tepui Kukenam Ruggedized on a KB Voodoo Midrack. Had is for almost 2 months now and taken 2 trips so far. Love the ease of setup and the comfort.

Top pick is right after I installed the RTT. Bottom pick is after setting up at 3a outside of Flagstaff. It was a cool night and only opened the door because I just wanted to go to bed. Also the poles will hit the cab if I try and open that window near the cab.

I love how low profile they are for the holding force that you get from them.
