You know you can't drive more than 50 miles at a time without letting the diff completely cool right? And that you need to change up your high way speeds every 5-10 minutes? Not exactly a fun way to cover a long distance.

ECGS told me 50 miles, then let it cool for 10 min. Thats what I did on my 225 mile drive home from there

10 mins isn't so bad. Still a pain in the ass compared to doing it at home I feel. Did they install it for you too? How much did that cost? In other news I just finished my break in. :yay:

They rebuilt the diffs that were in my truck. There was no core. I dropped it off at 8am, picked it up at 6. I paid $1800 installed.

That's pretty good, no air lockers I guess, just re-gear?

Instead of driving to ECGS why not just go in In Gear in Manasquan? Second to none in quality and he's a Toyota guy too.

Back roads through the south won't be a bad way to spend several days.

10 minutes? Not what their written instructions say. That rear diff gets hot as hell. I drove 50, then sat for at least a half hour. Took back roads home to keep speeds lower too. Also made a conscious effort to keep varying my speed. Kinda like breaking in a camshaft. No pattern, totally random changes in rpm. Kinda hard to do actually.

It so happened that the day that I drove back was cold and raining. Helped keep the temps down. Which is why Im guessing, they told me 10 min

I did read on at least a few sites that some diff shops prefer synthetic oil because it does not break down at higher temps, which is critical during gear break in. The process is similar to heat treating metal. Too much heat, and you weaken it.

ECGS specifically says to use dino oil. 85w140. As thick as pudding. Took me 40 min to refill the rear diff

It is thick. I used it also. Usually run synthetic Lucas oil. I even run Lucas in my air compressors both at home and at work. Good shit.
