I've punched into customers ducts in attic before. Just patched with foil tape when I was done.

I'd think you could get away with the icechest type ac unit for that. Cheap and easy.

I often wondered if there's an advantage to running them in series...maybe helping keep the ice longer in the 2nd chest?

Hang the thermometer in the crate it is getting direct sunlight and the crate is acting as a heat sink radiating back at the unit.

Those are pretty popular here. I wrapped a cheap ice chest with it when I was living in my travel trailer during the week and it really helped expand the life of the ice by a couple days.

I have a feeling that is the stuff we used to steal from the guys on the flight deck that they called 100 mph tape. :anonymous: Puts duct tape to shame!

Yeah I do have it mounted on the inside of the crate at the far end of where the fan is blowing and up high. Figured it was worst case scenario but accurate.

    probe.jpg

With an ancient C clamp on the outside zip tied to hold it in place. Makes a handy dandy holder for the sensor unit too LOL.

    probeOutside.jpg

So dorked around with it for a bit more it is now 86* and inside the crate 117*

    117In86Out.jpg

With the fan on got it down to 109*. Water bottles aren't frozen yet but had a couple of large freezer packs so set them in front of the fan. Basically all they did was block the airflow and temps went up to 111*. Shit.

Dug around in the storage shed and found an old wire crate used to use for dog shows for an older dog years ago. And this is why I hate to throw stuff away. If I push the front seat up all the way I can get it on the dog bench behind it, if I put my ass into closing the door that is. Digs into the drivers side seat pretty good but the seat cover should protect it think it will work. Going to look at seat belt restraining options again now.

Thanks for the help everyone this has been a bit of an eye opening as to hot it gets back there. The breeder is South of Houston Tx. and right now a friend of hers has the dog who lives in Magnolia Tx. North of Houston. They are headed to Northern IL. and she said they didn't know if they were going to leave Sunday night or Monday morning it depended on the temperatures. And they have a climate controlled dog trailer with AC but she said it can still get too hot to travel. That part is really starting to make sense to me now.

You seem to be putting way to much effort into this. What ever happened to just putting the dog in the cab of the truck with you and telling it to sit?
I guess thats about the same thing as telling kids to knock it off and go outside and play.

And those temps magnify significantly when the freeway is heat soaked. If you have really nice night time temps and the road surface cools off it makes travelling way better. But t when those road temps radiate through the floor of your vehicle it's just a fight to get them back down or pretty much impossible without a lot of work. Trailers and pickup beds aren't known for their insulated qualities.

I got a lb of beans in the crock and a couple steaks to do up. The wind is up so they may go in the broiler.
