Any news on the Frame Rust issues on Toyota Tacoma CRAP trucks made in 2001? My '01's frame has been "inspected" THREE times by teenagers crawling under the truck and tapping on it with a HAMMER and saying "ALL IS WELL!" or "Truck is in GREAT SHAPE!" I have the last one in WRITING! The frame looks like craps! Numerous photos, letters, phone calls to Toyata HQ and nothing. This has been going on for several years now and nothing but the "free hammer test".

My frame is so rotten I'm almost afraid to drive it. Now my truck goes into high idle on several occasions when I'm going uphill. I have to slap the gas peddle to make it stop and since I drive a Standard I put it in nuetral. Then the Check Engine light goes on for the day and then goes out and it goes back to normal. Then I hear they recalled Tundras for rust. I used to be a huge Toyota fan but I hate them now.

EDIT: It goes into HIGH IDLE when COASTING downhill and I have to put it into nuetral and slap the gas peddle numerous times to make it stop. Then the Check Engine light goes on. this is a LOW MILEAGE truck, less than 60,000 miles.

You need to try a different dealership for the inspection.

The hammer test is what they're supposed to do to test the frame, I'd suggest you post pictures here to.

Perhaps I don't understand your statement, as I'm not used to driving a standard, however I would assume your RPM will always increase going uphill? I know it does in my truck...

Do a search on the forum. I've posted dozens of pictures. I used to be one of you. I loved my tacoma. I will NEVER buy another one. THIS COMPANY IS INCAPABLE OF MAKING A VEHICLE THAT IS RESISTANT TO RUST! FACT!

Please click on my name and view the photos and posts. I grew weary of posting these and hearing how this is normal rust. BS! My firends Nissan and Ford from the same year still have paint on the frame. Mine is ROT.

I've tried other dealers. Same thing they all say #1, we don't know about a frame rust issue with the 2001 model BUT we will give you one for free. This AFTER Toyota HQ said to take it to them for an inspection!!!!!!!!!!!!

#2, teenager crawls under and taps with hammer, rust falls off in VOLUME. Youngster tells me FRAME IS IN GREAT SHAPE! I'm a metal worker by trade and I know that this is a TOTAL BS way to check for wall thickness due to corrosion. UT (ultrasonic) testing costs too much and is what is used in construction trades to test wall thickness on corroded metal parts like pipe and tube. That's why they use the teenager with the hammer.

WHO WILL BUY IT AND FOR HOW MUCH? The resale value on Tacomas in the NE USA has gone down how much? NOBODY WANTS THEM. A simple google search on 2001 tacoma brings up FRAME ROT ISSUES!!!!! Toyota sucks!

And if their hammer acutally penitrated your frame then yes I do believe you would be getting some help from toyota but its prolly just flaking off, and things along those lines. Try again in another couple of years.

Not sure what this dude is freaking out about - his frame looks to be in pretty good condition for its age. It all looks cosmetic. [IMG]
