has anyone had any luck syncing aftermarket tpms's to their 3rd gen tacomas??? Looking to buy a new set of wheels from tirerack.com and they come with new sensors but want to make sure they will be programmable to my truck before I spend so much money on them!

I have programmable Schrader EZ-Sensors on my 2nd gen, should connect to your 3rd gen no problem if you can find a tire shop that supports them. Discount tire does, when I got mine installed in Louisiana I had to email Schrader to find a local installer as very few had the equipment.

Just saying giving info based off a previous Gen might not be that helpful.

Mainly saying so because although some have got aftermarket sensors to work, many have had issues. Multiple tire shops around here won't even try them. Most of the time only the oem ones are working.

The sensors that I bought from Tire Rack were identical to the factory sensors so I wouldn't call them aftermarket. They were the same brand and part number as the sensors from Toyota.

These are the ones that I bought:

Wow that's fantastic to hear. Thanks so much. I am ordering wheels and tire package with the tpms's but it doesn't tell me what model number they are.

Another question. Did you have to have the dealership set them up to read on the car's computer?

So I got in touch with Tirerack and they said they shipped the same tpms's that Toyota uses. So just need to find a way to connect them to the computer. Would something like this work? Anybody have any experience with this? https://www.amazon.com/ATEQ-QuickSe...tDescription_secondary_view_div_1496611385958

The Ateq quickset tool is what I bought to program the new sensor i.d.'s into the trucks ECU. I use it twice a year when I switch between summer and winter wheels. You need to connect it to a computer (to input the i.d.'s) and then plug it into the OBD II port on the truck. I bought it from Tire Rack as they had the best price at the time.

You need the i.d. numbers of your new sensors and which wheel goes with which sensor. I don't know if Tire Rack supplies that information. As far as I know, new sensors also need to be activated (woken up, initialized). There is a separate tool that you point at the valve stem and it activates the sensor, reads the i.d. and tells you if the battery in the sensor is still good. Any decent tire shop should have that tool if you don't want to buy your own. It's possible that Tire Rack activates the sensors but you'd have to ask them.

The idea with the Schrader programmable sensors are you program the new sensors to match your old sensors so you could switch wheels without any reprogramming , they just clone your original ID numbers from your original sensors. It's a great idea. So the new Schrader way you program the sensor not the truck

Yes it works. I used it for the first time last fall when I put my winter wheels on and again this spring when I switched back to my summer wheels.

Update. Sullivan tire set up my new tpms's when I went for the alignment. They didn't even charge for it.

I just bought 4 new tire sensors and they don't work. Company that installed them suggested I go to Toyota....

BUMP. i'm also looking for aftermarket TPMS to have installed in some new wheels/tires. i was quoted at $40/TPMS from Discount Tire....looking for something cheaper than that on Amazon or eBay that is: a) compatible b) plug-and-play
