The thing I like about VP fuels is that at the end of the season you don't need to flush the fuel. It's expected to be fine for two years once opened and 5 in the can. So no stabilizer needed, no gummy carbs.

LOL, I'm probably already on my 50th gallon of gas in the boat so far this season already- and that's for a 25hp. No need for stabilizer here, it was wet yesterday and will be later today too!

Exactly. He's convinced that since he stabilized it last fall it should still be good.

I wasn't about to argue with him, at that price. If I convinced him that he was wrong he might have changed his mind and kept the boat! :goingcrazy:

External, 6 gallon portable tank. I already drained it off and refilled it with some freshly mixed fuel, I just need to pull the carbs and blast them out with some carb cleaner and see if that ungums them. If not, I'll rebuild them and see if that fixes it. But I need to pick up one of those hose attachments that lets you test the engine out of the water, because I don't have a bucket big enough to fit the lower end and the prop, so I can't test my theory right now.

Don't rule out the hose. Whenever my little boat starts acting up, it always seems to be the damn hose with the ball. I've bought the expensive OEM ones and the cheap Attwood ones and it seems they all just fail every few years.

If gumming out the carbs doesn't fix it that'll be my next move, I think. Cheaper and easier than a carb rebuild kit, lol.

Carbs are pretty cheap on flea bay, just buy a new one and slap it on there.

That's a pretty good deal you got though.

It's a twin carb setup, and I found a set on there for $125. The rebuild kits are $12 per, lol. I am still a cheap bastard, after all, haha! Besides, rebuilding a carb isn't too hard; once you've done a couple and get the concepts down they're pretty easy.

That's true, but time is money and damn if it isn't quick to just remove the old and slap a new one on.

True. My time isn't worth that much, though. I can rebuild a pair of little one bbl carbs like that in under an hour, and I won't be able to get out on the water until this weekend at the earliest anyway. :notsure:

I run Ethanol free exclusively in my small engines for this reason. Don't have to drain the snowblower for the summer, don't have to drain the mowers for the winter. Stewarts has 91 ethanol free in Vermont, so I can just go there to get it--pretty quick ride.

I just put Startron fuel enzyme in my gas cans. I've never drained any of my small engines and they always fire up the next season. No ethanol-free anywhere near me.

Same problem here. I just run the marine-grade Sta-bil in everything and I've had zero problems. :notsure:

Sta-Bil fogging oil in the carbs, cylinders, intakes, etc.

Handy for engines that you store. Spray it into the carb with the engine running until it starts smoking out thru the exhaust. You can also pull the plug and shoot it directly into the cylinder for an extra dose. Helps keep the rings from sticking to the cylinder walls over the winter.
