    I like the looks and I have wanted to add some white LEDs to either side of the red ones and wire them independently to light up the rear bed area from above. But at $116 that is too much money to risk the possibility of completely ruining the light if the modifications do not work.

    Why not get it "smoked" at your local window tint shop? They just throw a layer of tint and heat shrink it. Done. Probably for about $30 I'd guess. Added bonus that it stays stock.

    I'm not good with this stuff but i would think a smoked lens is all needed to be a Blacked out 3rd brake light? I could be wrong though. I am a dummy

    I am watching that thread and I think the light being worked out is awesome but no pricing has been released and I am guessing based upon information from the OP in the thread, that the price will be more than I really want to pay considering what the OP has listed so far as his costs for the components before any labor charges.
