Well said...I'm just slow. Idiotism averted....again.

 

It's really funny how I have a little love/hate thing going on with gearbox. Some days it is absolutely glorious and I love driving it. And then there are days like today where its still great but I feel like we are fighting each other and I have to talk to it and try to convince it to cooperate.

On another note have any of you noticed that when cold the clutch bite point is not as smooth as when warmed up? It started doing this to me maybe 7,000 miles or so ago, I have 22k now. It seems like the first 5 -10 minutes of driving I have to be very on point with the clutch or I have to let it slip a bit to avoid jerky take-offs. Clutch engagement becomes much smoother after it has warmed up a bit.

 

i think mine has always been a bit like that. i expect the truck to be a little stiff until she warms up. even the tires need warmup time so i take it slow for the first few miles before loosening up my driving.

 

This is exactly how I feel. I have a love hate thing going on with a tranny.. Some days it's smooth as can be, Some days it fights u to death. Weird.

 

You ain't making chit up...same here. Relative humidity seems to affect it worse on cooler mornings. But only for the first few mins for me

 

Okay, I feel a little better now that I hear you guys have the same issue. My '15 started to do the shudder thing when cold and I thought maybe my clutch was going.

The other thing I'm not to sure about is the clutch grab point feels like it's super late. If I press the clutch peddle all the way to the floor and then release, the clutch doesn't engage until it's almost all the way out. I wanted to know if you guys have this same issue? I've been driving toyota MT's for the last 20 years and this is the first clutch that I've had that felt like this. Granted I just changed from an '89 4x4 to my '15, but if it's an issue, I want to get it fixed while I still have my three year power train warranty.

 

seems everyone with a 3rd gen MT is saying the same thing. clutch engagement is very top of the pedal travel. some like, some hate, some just adapt.

 

Good to know. That brings some peace of mind, especially since I have a 2K mile road trip coming up next month!

 

I tried to get my mechanic to adjust the bite point, he just shook his head. He said its hydraulic and cannot be adjusted

In regards to the friction point; air in the hydraulics might cause variations and inconsistencies in behavior. Most of you have pretty new trucks and it should've been handled at the factory, but you know how that goes. Bleeding the slave is pretty easy.

 

When i picked up the truck with 26miles on it. the clutch was catching at the very top(it would also do the bunny hops no matter how smooth i try to shift into 1st), and that clutch lasted 600miles, then it self destructed. They replaced the whole clutch assembly for me, and the new one feels 100x better, it's catching in the middle. The truck is running great after the new clutch (still only @3k though).

 

I drive an 18 speed daily so these little clutches are no big deal I just adapt. It grabs a little high but not much you can do, the resistance is good for the weight of the truck. Try the 379 Pete i drive over 90lbs of pressure LOL

thats false, you can do it yourself with i believe a 10 and a 12 mm wrench or possibly 2 10s i don't remember. Get the two wrenches, move your driver seat all the way back and lay down on the floor looking up into the dashboard/pedal area. On the back of the clutch pedal you should see the piston for the MC. On the piston there are two nuts located directly on the shaft of the MC. If you loosen the one nut and then adjust the other you can move the pedal up or down in its travel allowing you to bring the engagement point down a bit if you want.

Has anyone push started their truck yet? A friend mentioned that they thought modern manuals couldn't be started that way due to computer stuff but I thought I read someone on here who did it. Anything special that needs to be done? Don't want to be stranded and then have to try to figure it out...

 

last time i tried to push start a new manual i had a hell of a time. i may also be shit at push starting cars.
