I'm very close to making a deal for a new 2017 4 door, short bed 4x4. My question is simply: What's the difference between a SR with conv. pkg and appearance pkg and an SR5? Would I save a lot by getting the SR? What would I be missing out on by not getting the SR5?

    Thanks

The things that I can think of right off hand are the SR5 you can get with a V6, has fog lights, entune plus with scout connected app.

SR5 will also get you intermittent wipers and the multi information display.

alloy wheels, fog lights, rear window tint, cab bed light, chrome rear bumper, keyless entry, entune plus (better stereo), cruise, intermittent wipers, multi-info display in the instrument cluster, auto dim rear view mirror/compass, and it's available in more colors. I'm probably missing some things, but the SR vs SR5 is mainly cosmetic/convenience stuff, and the SR5 is automatic only. I wanted a V6/Auto 4X4 so the SR5 was the way to go for me.

Intermittent wipes can be put on an SR for $120.
    Mirror $125.
Much better foglights can be added. Price that stuff on the dealer sticker.
Better radio head unit can be added.
You can have V6, 4x4, keyless remote, cab bed light and anything on an SR basically. Need to look on the lot.
Better shocks, tires, rims etc etc etc can be added.
Sometimes better to go with SR than SR5 to get better stuff opposed to inflated SR5 pricing.
Only thing you are missing is the little display in the center which the Pioneer head units have built into the radio will do most of it for you.
Oh you can get the Sport sticker in the back for $15 too :)
Off road is a different story only if you need that capability.

And you might regret buying a SR...

    You won't regret buying a SR5.

What is the savings between the two? I recently saw a member with an SR5 that made me rethink my purchase.

I'm wondering that as well seeing as I'd want the SR with the appearance pkg, tow pkg and convenience pkg. If the price was within a few hundred I would likely go SR5.

When I was shopping the SR was the only trim that was off the table for me.
It's missing too many creature comforts for my taste and I'm not hard to please (ha!)

But I couldn't do without the leather steering wheel, other than that, most everything else is fair game.

I wouldn't however recommend getting the SR5 with the appearance pg because it comes with the alloy wheels and tires you want to get rid of.
The only thing I found of value in the pkg were the fender flairs and maybe the auto dim\compass rear view mirror.
What I really didn't like about the higher trim models like the ltd is the start button, I'm just not a fan but, to each their own.

Good luck with your decision, hope that helps
    Cheers!

My only SR regret is no intermittent wipers - but I'll get those added eventually.... along with fogs. Can't stand the chrome on the SR5, so there's that.

Looks like most everything is covered already.

If you are all-in for automatic, and like the chrome trim ... SR5 would be likely be for you. (The only manual option for the SR is a 4cyl anyway ... which doesn't come in the DCSB/4x4 configuration you have listed).

If you plan to customize, and don't mind using an OBDII app for the lack of MFD ... SR w/ convenience package is the way to go.

SR w/ convenience package is also prewired for fogs, so that's an easy upgrade as well.

not sure if the convenience package on the sr includes cruise control? I looked at an SR first and it did not have cruise. That was a enough to be a deal breaker for me so i went with SR5. Plus you get remote entry, and scout nav which for me were bonuses.

Convenience package is cruise control and remote keyless entry on the SR.

Good to know and it's more reliable if you're out in the middle of nowhere and the battery or started decides to takes a dump! I've pushed started those babies down hill before and got going back to the rat race.

    Cheers!
