Inspections are free. As long as it was inspected and coated before the cutoff date you are good up to 15 yrs past your manufacture date. Mine was checked in feb '10 and went in and failed Monday. Looking forward to my new frame soon!

I'm so angry about Toyota and this issue. I have just purchased an 04 Tacoma 4x4 in May of 2015 for $12,000. The entire vehicle was underlined and all rust hidden. Driving down the road 4 months later ran over a small pot hole that a kids bike could handle and the frame of the truck broke. Called Toyota about this issue and they will not do anything. I have had 3 Ford trucks in my life and they are all lasted 250,000+ miles sitting outside everyday. This truck was only 11 Years old and the body looked perfect, but they will take no responsibility for the issue. The frame was undersealed and everything. To get the repair work done they had to descale the frame and these are what they found. One low res pic, One high res pick. Just bought the website names for www.WhyToyotaSucks.com and www.WhyTacomaSucks.com . In the process of getting them created now. I'll never buy a Toyota again, and spread the hate as much as I can for this company.

Sounds like you should have had an Pre Purchase Inspection done by a mechanic. Something that anyone buying a used vehicle should do.

I did, the vehicle was all filled and underlined and nothing was visible until after we had it descaled.

If you did any form of research on buying a toyota tacoma, you would have clearly seen on hundreds of sites that show car reports that this was the number one issue with buying a tacoma. I did my research and only looked for tacomas with a new frame, or a vin number that showed the frame had been sprayed per toyotas requirements. YOU need to take responsiblility and move on. I would suggest since your frame is now descaled, to weld in frame supports in every spot that is showing problems or potential problems, paint and undercoat your frame. inside and out.

I think bottom line here and yes I agree this is getting old, but a lot and I mean a lot of people never ever got the letter regarding the frame inspection. So when they find out that their very reliable Tacoma that they figured was going to last a very long time Suddenly their frames are crap and not safe to drive get very upset when Toyota tells them that they missed the deadline and to bad so sad your problem not ours. They are in shock and very frustrated and I cannot blame them at all . Just my two cents.

I bought my 2001 Tacoma double cab 2015 if I remember right, and the frame was decent because the truck came from Arizona. The person that had my truck took it in for the frame recall and they denied her because she lived in a state that didn’t apply salt to the roads . They sprayed the frame to appease her and sent her on her way. The truck was in Cleveland Ohio 2 years prior to my buying it and I didn’t have a clue to the issues with the frames. The undercoating sprayed on the frame was gone and it showed signs of needing to be attended to. I contacted Toyota and explained to them they denied the previous owner a new frame and explained what was happening to the frame and the service professional salesman told me nope can’t help you and if your looking to have a frame replacement it’s roughly $16,000 dollars. Toyota of North Olmster service manager. $16,000 sounded like he was trying to tell me to go away.Amherst Toyota told me $10,000. My frame has two small spots where rust worked through noticeably. Its June and hot out so there’s no moisture in the frame I decided to buy some high grade moisture resistant great stuff and I filled the frame completely.it expanded filling the entire frame pouring out of every hole. I let it dry up and cleaned up the holes making it flush and sprayed truck bed coating over all the areas showing the orange great stuff at the holes of the frame. Now water cannot enter the fram and will not rust from inside. My next step is to take my time with black rust stop rustoleum and a paint brush and paint the entire exterior of the frame. My trucks paid for, I’ll think twice before buying another vehicle that could have any issues with the frame.

The great stuff will not stop the rust.all rust needs is oxygen to continue.
There are products out there that stop rust and can actually eliminate it,but damage will remain.
What I'm doing to my replacement frame is called cavity wax..it comes out in a liquid form but after application it will harden and seal off the metal from oxygen.
The reason we(tacoma owners)are having this issue is Dana, the company that produced the frame skipped a process that blends a corrosion resistant material with the frame.this is done way before the frame metal is ever formed into rails.
The word is the new frames have been produced with the correct additives to prevent this...note the warranty on the new frame.....
Adding great stuff seems like a great idea, but it is a breathable foam...meaning oxygen will still be present....

I filled the cavity of the frame completely with water resistant great stuff. I did tests with the truck bed spray and soaked it in water. The stuff adheres to metal like you wouldn’t believe. I sprayed the holes of the frame that the great stuff was spilling out after it cured. It’s not getting oxygen brother. I’ll update this in a year to give another review.

I didn't get a letter about this from the dealership where I bought my '99 brand new, nor any other Toyota dealers where I had it serviced.

I received an email from Toyota itself not the dealer from which I bought it.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Do you reside in the "rust" belt? It was only sent out to owners in certain states.
