I'd rather not think of all the $ spent :(
I'm playing with some PVC pipes for mine. Nothing yet but thinking of cutting out a section for the reels so the rod is protected. The other idea is a rod holder (Berkley or Cabelas brand) mounted under the RTT. Let me know if you come up with something. I'm currently doing the same as you but on my awning mounts.

Picked up 2 today! They were $13.99 but seem really well built. I'm tempted to grab a few more. Thanks for the heads up!

Has anyone ditched the matress in the RTT and used something like two Thermarest dreamtime mattresses instead?
I already have one dreamtime. Just wondering if its worth it to buy another.
Ive been wanting to do this so its a bit easier to keep the sleeping bags in the tent (one reason why I wanted a RTT but only done it once because its a pain to stuff them in there and close it up)
You think any one would want to buy the RTT mattress?

I'm about to add a 1.5" or 2" memory foam topper to ease my shoulder pain from side sleeping. We use regular sheets and blankets instead of bags. We are also in Texas and it's hot. The occasional "cold" camp, we usually just double up blankets and cover our heads.

Took the boys camping this weekend. The 2 little ones stayed with me in the tent, the 2 older boys slept in the bed of the truck

What sleeping bags are you using? I have a Teton Mammoth and two pillows and have no problems closing the tent. Biggest thing is to make sure the bag and pillows are already folded over onto the bottom side of the tent prior to folding the actual tent, otherwise they will just bunch up in the middle when you flip it.

Damn! Bob - that looks sweet - Quite the transformation, from the pop-up camper shell to RTT to this :-O - You'll appreciate not having the RTT onboard 24/7. Tent opening to passenger side?

Thanks Rick! Definitely a change from the FWC. Yeah, I'm going to keep the tent opening to the passenger side.

@riz_atx Was wondering on this set up, I have been really thinking about getting this done just to hold up my RTT... what did you use... I have kids so they play in the garage any worries of it coming loose?

Im in the garage a bunch and my truck sits under it. I have not seen any point of failure developing. All the lag bolts used to mount the 2x6's to the ceiling joists were huge and we doubled up. The cordage used has about 5x the capacity of what the hoist is rated.

This is the system that my installer used:

Lots of bolt on chrome stuff
I added a 2" memory foam too. The mattress on its own left me with a sore hip after side sleeping, the memory foam made it as good or better than sleeping in the bed at home.
