I fish a lot of small streams hopping from rock to rock with steep elevation and they work great. Do the rocks you fish have didymo or something on them? Felt has always worked well for me

No didymo yet thankfully. A shit ton of moss and whatnot from where they haven't generated in a long time.

I had Korkers Chrome which I just replace this spring. They lasted me 6 seasons I think and finally they fell apart. The Boa's were nice, especially steelheading in the winter and not having to deal with frozen laces. I ended up buying a pair of Simms, with laces, this time (Patagonia were too wide for my foot) and have been happy so far with them. I would not hesitate buying Korkers again if they fit me well.

Got into some nice chunky & healthy Landlocked Salmon recently on a trip up in northern Maine. Still crushing small streamers! So much fun on a 5wt. Here's a few pics.

No luck fly fishing in the Keys. I tried many times tossing artificial. The fish in South Florida want nothing to do with fake bait.

They do love some shrimp, though.

Don't be hating on me for showing pics of me and my fish.Attach2397_20170604_074930.jpg Attach2398_20170604_074946.jpg

The redfish was 33.5". Won me the tournament.

    Thanks, Tacoma brother.

It was a cancer research benefit fishing tournament. I gave more than I got, and wouldn't have it any other way.

Went back to the creek today. 45 mins and not a single hit. Threw rubber legs, soft hackles, mop flies, buggers, streamers...nothin. They'd come in at 100 mph for the rubber legs then turn away at the last second.

Had the ultralight rod in the truck so I grabbed it. First cast, 14" rainbow. Second cast...

I swear we must have been fishing the same creek haha. All I managed to catch was a tiny smallmouth without even knowing smallmouth were present. Had a larger fish on for a few seconds then he spit out the fly.
    IMG_2312.jpg
After I got back home I paddled around the lake and caught 15 or 20 little panfish on a wet ant. Beautiful colors right now, the pictures don't do them justice.

I do a lot of czech nymphing. What I usually do is start with a short 8"-12" of braided backing to connect to my fly line via loop to loop (mostly just to indicate that the leader is out the tip of the rod), then about 5' or so of 4x fluoro. to that I tie another 18" to 24" of 4x fluoro... and to that another 18" to 24" of 4x fluoro with a nail knot, but I leave one tag of the nail knot quite long. This is where I tie my anchor flies. Then I tie my other fly to the end. I think most other people tie the anchor fly to the end of the line, but I prefer this setup for some reason (probably because I goofed the first time tying flies on, and just kept doing it out of ignorance).

I do use an inexpensive 10' 4wt I built, and a 8'6" is going to be a challenge.

I've also tied up a bunch of slinky indicators with Rio's two toned indicator tippet, and will be trying these soon too. I'm not sure where I'll put them in my czech nymph setup just yet... or even if I will.

Thanks. I've been keeping my eye open for a long 4wt on craigslist. I don't want to buy a brand new one because I want to get a good 8-10wt for coastal fishing and stripers first.

    Trout buffet.

Anyone else struggle tying flies after not doing it for a while? I sat down at my bench for the first time in like a month last night, and struggled to the point where I had to stop. Ugh.

I'd be worried about getting sand and silt caught up between the sole. I use felt bottoms with interchangeable studs. They haven't failed me yet. I go through 2-3 sets of studs a year.
